A week later I heard a knock on the door. Quietly I tiptoed downstairs and glancing behind a corner I saw Amanda's parents in our living room. Everyone looked up at them. Amanda's mother shook her head and burst into tears.
"They couldn't do anything," Amandas father said. "She opened her eyes once, whispered Chloe and Cernunnos and...and.." and her father burst into tears too. "But don't tell Chloe yet." I just stood there motionless, not understanding, what has just happened.
"Too late," Anna whispered. They all turned to look at me. I turned on my heel and ran upstairs.
* * *
"Chloe...dinner's ready.." Anna's voice said somewhere in the distance. "I'm not hungry," I whispered. "You have to eat something! You didn't eat for 3 days!" Anna said quietly. "I said I'm not hungry!!!" I shouted.
The loss of Amanda affected me harder than anyone else.
I sat on the windowsill and watched the rain pouring outside. I remebered the best moments I and Amanda had. I remebered how once she called me outside for our first trail ride. She was surprised when she saw that Thor was wearing a saddle. Also whenever you found Amanda alone somehwre in the wild you could always see a wild animal with her. I remembered how she showed me her favorite fox cub. She called him Atu. She always showed me terrific animals. Dears and stags weren't at all afraid of her. Birds always sang when she entered the forest and they never flew away. She loved them all and they all loved her.
With tears in my eyes I fell asleep. In my dream I stood up and sat on the windowsill again. A phoenix landed next to me and turned into Amanda. "You need me and I will return till you'll need me," she said smiling slightly. "Can you stay? Please!" I cried. Sadly she shook her head. "Amanda! Amanda!!!" I whispered and felt tears in my eyes. "Please will you help me? I need you!" "Chloe," Amanda whispered. Suddenly I felt that someone was shaking me. I relised that this was a dream, but I didn't want it to end! I didn't want to wake up! "Nooooo!" I cried, but too late. I was awake. My family was standing around me and I relised that I was on the floor.
I must have fallen out of my bed. "What was it?" Anna whispered. "What happened?" "Amanda! She was there, I talked to her!" I said my eyes glinting. "But Amanda's..." Andrew began. "I know. But she always said that miracles happen. Not often, but they do..." I whispered hopefully. Suddenly there was a screech outside. I dashed to the window.
A golden bird with a trail of fire behind it, could be seen outside. I felt the others come to me. "Impossible.." my father whispered.
"Amanda!" I whispered. The phoenix looked at me with those warm black eyes, then opened its wings wide and vanished in a falsh of fire. I knew now that Amanda was right. Anything is possible. A single feather flew through the air and landed next to me. I picked it up. It was golden and it was filled with diamonds.
Later we went to sleep again, my heart fully happy and relaxed.
