Jeff:
"So girls," the mom says, "what happened today? Anything exciting?" I hear one of the girl's laugh. "We climbed into the rafters of the gym and dumped melted peanut butter on Principal Sanadello's head during the pep-rally," Katie says as she laughs. I hear the mom laugh and try to look through the cracks in the porch so I could see them.
I don't get much luck, but I do see Katie with a huge smile on her face. It almost makes me smile even more... almost. "You girls are just like Polly and I were, wild and lawless!" the mom says.
I hear one of the girls choke on her drink. "My mom was lawless back then!?" Georgia yells. "She still is," Katie says. "I didn't think she was back then!" Georgia replies. I hear Katie laugh. I look through the crack and see her laughing really hard.
"She's only thirty-two!" the mom says. Katie snorts and bursts out laughing. She slaps her thighs multiple times before throwing her head back and laughing. "I didn't know it was that funny," the mom says. Georgia makes a noise in agreement.
I stop paying attention to Katie and look toward the woods. BEN is standing in the shadows of the tree line. "Ahh!" My head snaps toward the stairs at the sound of a scream. "Katie!" I hear the mom yell her name and look through the gaps in the stairs. Katie had fallen and was now staring at me through the gaps in the stairs.
Katie:
I screamed as I fell off the railing. I hit the snow blanketed ground, heard shuffling under the porch, and looked through the gaps in the stairs to see a boy. His face was white -- not pale, white! -- and looked leathery, his eyes had black rims around them -- burn marks -- and he wasn't blinking, but the thing that threw me off the most was his smile. It was carved onto his cheeks, going from the corners of his lips to both ears.
He was staring at me. I wasn't scared, only a little weirded out that he was just... there -- under my porch. He... was Jeff the Killer. "Katie!" Mom yells. "Are you okay!?" "Fine, mom," I say, not taking my eyes off Jeff. Despite his carved smile, he looked shocked. His blue eyes shone with curiosity.
It was probably because I didn't scream when I saw him. The snow stung my bare legs as Georgia rushed down the steps to help me up. I forced my eyes away from Jeff and allowed Georgia to pull me to my feet. "Can we go inside?" I ask my mom. "Yeah, hon," she says and grabs the pizza box.
Georgia puts her hand on my back and we sit on the couch. "I'm going to bed, girls," Mom says and heads upstairs. "Katie," Georgia says and looks at me. "Yeah?" I ask. "What did you see under the stairs?"
I tense up. "What are you talking about?" I ask. The fake in my voice is totally exposed. "You suck at lying," Georgia said. I sigh. "What. Did. You. See?" Georgia asks, spacing out the words. "Jeffthekiller," I say super fast, hoping she wouldn't hear. "What?" she asks. "Isawjeffthekiller," I say even faster.
"Dude, slower," Georgia says and pulls out her phone. I sigh again, knowing I've lost this battle. "I saw Jeff the Killer," I say. Georgia snaps her head up. "Jeff the killer? That guy we looked up on the computer?" she asks. I nod.
"Katie you're paranoid," she laughs. "No I'm not!" I exclaim. "He was there. I saw him! I'm not paranoid!" "Yeah, okay," Georgia says and looks back at her phone. I run a hand through my pale blonde hair. "I'm going to get a glass of water," I say and stand up.
Georgia stands too. "I'm going to bed," she says and walks upstairs. "Be up in a second," I respond and walk into the kitchen. I hear my bedroom door close as I fill my glass. Then, I have second thoughts and grab make a mug of hot chocolate to go along with my water.
Why was he under my porch? I think to myself as I step out onto the porch with my hot chocolate and water, closing the door behind me. I stare up at the stars and try to find constellations. There is shuffling under the porch. He's still there!? I mentally yell as I grip my glass and mug tighter.
I place my glass on the railing, grab my mug, and walk down the stairs. I look under them. I don't see him, but I have a feeling he's there. Placing the mug on the step, I whisper, "It's probably been a while since you've had some." The mug releases from my grasp, and I walk back up the stairs of the porch, grab my glass, and head inside.
Jeff:
"It's probably been a while since you've had some," I hear Katie whisper. Her blue eyes shine as she looks under the porch. Her fingers slide from the mug and I listen as she goes inside. Once the door closes, I snake my fingers through the steps and grip the mug. It's hot chocolate.
Why did she do this for me? I think as I crawl out from under the porch, the mug in my hand. I look through her window on the second floor to see her closing the blinds and turning out the light. As I walked into the woods, I stared at the drink in my hand. Maybe I'll let this one live, I think.
A/N: There's chapter three. Chapter four soon to come.
