Lida ran as fast as his engines would allow, pushing past the burning of his calves as they overheated. He'd grabbed recovery girl and anything he thought they'd need before rushing back. They were coming into view when he heard Bakugo's broken plea. He pushed himself faster and practically dropped Recovery Girl on top of Izuku. She didn't hesitate to start treating him. Her sole focus was the boy in front of her but you could see it in her face that she was losing him. Aizawa dragged Bakugo away so she could work and what scared everyone more was he hadn't even fought back. Time seemed to drag on as everyone waited. It wasn't until Recovery Girl sighed that everyone realized they'd been spacing out.
"I've done what I can, the rest will be up to him. I managed to stop the bleeding and handled all the internal bleeding but there's no guarantee. He didn't have much stamina and I used more than he had to heal them. There's nothing else I can do right now. Bring him to the infirmary so I can get him properly settled and see what more I can do."
Kuroguiri picked him up and opened a portal to get them there faster, taking only Recovery Girl, Dabi, Aizawa, Bakugo, and Izuku. As soon as they arrived Recovery Girl got to work prepping him for surgery, then shooed them out into the hall until she finished. Bakugo was still silent, too silent. Dabi decided to try and bring the boy back out of his spiraling mind.
"Bakugo, you know there was nothing you could have done right? Izuku would have sacrificed himself regardless of what anyone tried to do to save him."
"I know."
"Katsuki." At Aizawa's voice, everyone turned to look at him. "Don't blame yourself for this. I know what you saw and heard in the common room is bothering you too. Everything Izuku has done was to protect you. He may have become the villain they wanted but that didn't stop him from being a hero. He's worked hard to get as far as he has and if he does survive this, he's going to need you." At those words, the three men watched as Bakugo finally cracked. Aizawa rushed to catch him as his knees gave and continued to hold him as he fell apart.
"If that day hadn't ever happened Izuku wouldn't have been left alone to be taken, he wouldn't have had to become the villain to keep me safe. He's my best friend and all he's ever done is protect me. When I couldn't protect him." No one knew what to say to comfort to him so Aizawa just held him a little tighter.
They sat in the hall for hours waiting for any news. Bakugo looked like a zombie and Kuroguiri and Dabi had fallen asleep not long ago. Aizawa had left for a while to check on the rest of class 1-A and the other students. No one knew what to feel right now, it was too hard. When Recovery Girl opened the door a short time later Dabi and Bakugo had jumped up, waiting for news. She looked tired and her outfit was covered in blood.
"He's resting now but I do believe he will recover. He has extraordinary healing capabilities. Many of his serious injuries started healing before I got to them and I know it wasn't because of my quirk. He's a fighter for sure." Everyone seemed to relax at the news but knew the worst was coming. "He's going to be out of it for a while, and there's no telling what this amount of trauma has done to his already fragile psyche. He'll need serious physical therapy and he still might not have a full range of motion. Also, I discovered something while I was doing surgery." She turned to Kuroguiri and Dabi with a slight frown. "Has he ever complained of a painful pressure between his shoulder blades?" They looked to each other in thought, Dabi answered.
"Once a few years ago. Shigaraki had sent him to kill off the local Mafia and when he returned he was nearly dead. We patched him up and he slept for three days and he said he felt completely fine except his back. We checked but there wasn't anything there why?" Recovery Girl had gone slightly pale at that when she realized her initial assumption was in fact true.
