Aiden’s POV
“Man, pack business has been crazy these past few weeks, don’t you think Aiden?” Riley says to me.
“Yea, I haven’t had more than four hours of sleep per night in a while.” I complain to him.
Riley is my second in command, my Beta. I trust him with my life and he was the obvious choice for Beta since we grew up together and have been best friends ever since we were in diapers. After all these years he is the same goofy guy he was when we were kids; shaggy blonde hair, bright blue eyes, and a huge lop-sided grin. That’s Riley, always cutting up and joking around.
I am the Alpha of the Midnight Moon pack. Being alpha is my life and I do my duties to the pack with dignity and honor. I took the alpha position for my father, Alpha James, when he retired a couple of years ago. Although Alphas are usually not as young as I am, my father thought I was ready. I love my life living in the pack house and leading my pack but there is one thing missing, my mate. I have heard stories about what it’s like to find your mate ever since I was a boy; how there is no feeling like it in the world. I long for my mate, to do anything and everything to make her happy. I’m sure she is smart, gorgeous, kind, and will make an outstanding Luna for my strong pack. Even though I can’t wait to get my mate, not many people see that side of me, the soft side. To my pack and the humans in the town and at school, I am powerful, strong, and not to be trifled with. Plus it’s no secret, I’m a ladies man. I have no doubt when I find my mate that she will fall head over heels for me!
I’m not usually much of a coffee person but it sounds pretty good with the day I am looking at ahead of me. I walk into the local coffee shop and the usual smell of coffee hits me but there’s something else, something different. It smells like vanilla, honey, and a touch of violets. I have to find out where it’s coming from and all of a sudden I see her. My wolf is screaming “MATE” and is the happiest he has ever been. I can’t stop staring at her. Usually I’m good with girls but damn, my mouth is dry and I can’t even get one word out. My mate is perfect with her long Auburn hair, big green eyes, perfect curves…she is incredibly sexy! I want to take her right now in the coffee shop on the counter! Just thinking about it has my wolf and I going crazy.
My mate waves her hand in front of my face and I realize I still haven’t spoken to her. I start to say something about her being my mate when I realize that I had been so out of it, I didn’t even realize that she’s a human! Now that I’m focusing on it, I do smell her lovely scent but it’s definitely not a wolf scent. I don’t have anything against humans but this will make things much more difficult and I will definitely have to wait to claim her, which I am not thrilled about. The whole time I’m in the coffee shop I can’t stop staring at her, she’s intoxicating.
As I walk outside, I realize I probably looked like the biggest idiot to her; I didn’t even talk to her! I have to find out everything there is to know about my perfect, sexy mate and work on getting her to except my wolf and I.
All day long I can’t focus in the meetings I am in or the conversations I’m having. All I can think about is her. Riley could tell something was up the moment I saw him after I got back from the coffee shop. I spilled it all to him, everything that happened and every detail about her. Well, not everything…I didn’t tell him I made an ass out of myself and hadn’t spoken a word to her. I commanded him and my third in command, Kohl, to find out EVERYTHING about my mate and report back to me ASAP.
Paige’s POV
Watching She’s the Man with Ellie, having what she calls “girl bonding time”, I am grateful to at least be going into tomorrow knowing one person. Tomorrow is the first day of my senior year. You can say that I am less than thrilled. Ellie assures me that I will just love it but she has that attitude about everything. Me on the other hand, well I’m not so sure. Ellie insisted that I stay with her on the night before school starts so that we can go together in the morning so I obliged because there really is not a whole lot of point in arguing with Ellie; she’s a persistent little thing.
Walking into school, I feel like I’m walking into a gas chamber or something. It’s not that I dislike school necessarily, it’s just that at my old school I had known everyone since we were kids but here, all I have is Ellie. Another reason that I’m dreading school is because of that guy that Ellie keeps rambling on about…Aiden I think his name was? If there are more creepy guys like him at this school I’m going to hate it. I mean seriously, someone who thinks they are too high and mighty to say anything to you but just keeps staring at “the goods”…come on. Although I do have to admit, his toned muscles, strong cheek bones, hazel eyes and short dark hair are something to be desired.
Ellie talks about boys the majority of the time. She keeps asking me if I have seen any cute guys around or if I had a boyfriend before I moved here but I always tell her no. Don’t get me wrong, I’m not a lesbian or anything and I can definitely appreciate the male form, but my life is just too complicated to include a boy in. Besides, I wouldn’t exactly call me a beauty queen. I have gotten quite a few whistles and cheesy pick-up lines but when you grow up being the girl with braces, big eyes, and an awkward body, it just sort-of stays with you.
Ellie and I go to the office to get my schedule and she gives me a short tour of the school. Unfortunately, since she’s a year younger than me, we don’t have any of the same classes together except for gym and music. She points me in the direction of my first class and then walks in the opposite direction. My first class is Government…oh joy. I walk in the class and snag a seat in the back row. As the bell rings, the teacher starts calling roll and as she gets to my name and I raise my hand, she pulls me up front. So here I am trying to think of something interesting to say about myself, classic new kid cliché. As I open my mouth to speak, the door comes swinging open and who else walks in but “most popular” himself, Aiden, with a posse following along behind him. The teacher, Mrs. Nordan, scolds them and then directs her attention back to me prompting me to introduce myself to the class. I feel his eyes on me but I refuse to make eye contact with him. I give my “new kid” spiel and then quickly take my seat.
The rest of the morning goes by without much excitement and finally lunch arrives. Ellie and I find each other and after getting out food, choose a table out in the court yard. I forgot a fork so I go up to get one when I feel this arm snake around my shoulder. I turn to see Aiden smiling his award-winning smile at me and I scowl back up at him.
“Can I help you with something?” I ask him.
“Hey sweetheart just wanted to introduce myself. I’m Aiden, as you probably have already heard. I thought you being new and all, I could give you a tour of the town sometime.” Aiden smoothly says.
Wow, this is definitely a different Aiden than I encountered before in the coffee shop. Now I know what Ellie meant when she said he was smooth talker.
“Actually playboys aren’t my type, but thanks anyways.” I say before walking away from a shocked Aiden and back to an equally shocked-looking Ellie.
