Over the next week, things fell into an interesting pattern. Ren continued to be annoying, to the point that I wanted to smack him, but that wasn’t really surprising. I would have actually been shocked if he’d matured even a bit over such a short time period. The host club seemed to be an object of amusement for him, but there was no arguing that he seemed to be in his natural habitat among air-headed girls that would fall head-over-heals for any remotely attractive males.
Which why I was even less surprised when by the end of the week Kyoya had stepped in and begun organizing his flirting. Meaning that Ren almost appeared to be a part of the host club, and I had to admit that if you got past the fact that he was a jerk the host club was the perfect place for him. Fujii was constantly checking in to make sure that “Kimura-aho” wasn’t causing problems. His checking-in happened to be a constant reminder that the cast on my arm was something that was partially Ren’s fault. I think that was the only thing that kept him from actually becoming a host over the uneventful week that Tamaki was teaching Shirou that song.
One of the first times I absolutely loathed the cast, however, was when I finally found out why Honey had been curious if my cast was water-proof.
I’d been writing down a few last minute reminders about class assignments when Honey began chattering about something the club had been planning for sometime. I only began to pay complete attention when he mentioned the fact that the activity included a resort with swimming pools.
“It’s gonna be really fun,” Honey continued enthusiastically. “You have to come! Kimura-san’s already agreed to come, so you don’t have to worry about him! You’ll come to the resort, won’t you, Nao-chan?”
I carefully laid down my pencil, glancing at my cast with annoyance. I’d always had a thing for sports, and swimming hadn’t been something that escaped my attention. To be honest it was on par with with my love for dancing when I was younger. I wasn’t the best at it, but I’d certainly enjoyed it and had never been able to turn down a chance to swim.
How exactly would I be able to swim when this cast couldn’t get wet? I highly doubted that just covering it with a plastic bag would be enough to make up for completely submerging it in water. Instead of mentioning that, however, I came up with a much more convenient excuse.
“I don’t have a swimsuit,” I pointed out. “I’d have to go home-”
“Hika-kun and Kao-kun are bringing some for Haruhi,” Honey interrupted cheerily. “You can borrow one from them!”
That declaration of his managed to not only draw a few of our classmates attentions, but also Ren’s. He twisted around in his seat towards the front of the room, curiosity in his expression. Pointedly turning my head so I couldn’t see his expression any longer, I gave Honey a sheepish smile.
“I’m not sure that’s a good idea…” I told him, deciding I might as well share my main concern. “Plus, there’s the problem of my cast…”
“Kyo-kun figured that out for me, he got a cast cover! They’re these things you can use to make sure that you can swim without messing up your cast.”
I blinked, staring at Honey with surprise. He’d gone that far? Also, if Kyoya had done that… I hate to think what it might have cost. Would Kyoya be expecting to be paid back? If I didn’t agree, he’d be certain to.
“Come on, Nao-chan,” Ren said as I opened my mouth to respond. “Afraid to see me in swimming trunks? It’s alright, I’m sure that-”
“I’ll go,” I interrupted, shooting Ren an annoyed look.
