"Hey, you alright there?"

The voice slowly pulled Matty out of his sleep. He opened his eyes to see a man in front of him. He looked to be older than Matty and was leaning towards the bench, staring at Matty as if he'd been scared to find a corpse, which had probably been the case.

Matty tried to take in his surroundings, looking in every direction when suddenly the memories from the night before hit him like a train. He quickly got up but fell back down almost instantly from the sudden whiplash. His back was hurting too. Sleeping on a bench wasn't one of his smartest ideas and he was now realizing that.

"Woah, slow down, it's okay." The man tried to calm Matty, which he did after a minute.

"Sorry" Matty didn't know what to say exept apologize to the stranger.

"Don't be, I clearly scared you so if anyone should be apologizing it's me."

The man's kindness shook Matty a bit. He was also glad that it wasn't an airport guard. God knows how that could've turned out.

The man stretched out his hand and Matty gladly took it, pulling himself to his feet more slowly this time. That's when he got a good look at the stranger in front of him. He looked to be a bit taller than Matty, had short brown hair and blue eyes that made him look younger than he probably was.

"By the way I'm Jamie", Jamie said with a friendly smile.

"Matty"

"I see you're not much of a talker Matty"

Matty didn't respond so Jamie kept speaking.

"You know, there's a hotel not far from here, you didn't have to sleep on a bench all night"

Matty didn't want Jamie to know about his money situation at the moment which was only a couple pounds at best. He knew better than to complain about how broke he is and pity from a stranger was the last thing he wanted.

"It wasn't too bad"

He lied, it was awful. The hard surface of the bench woke him up on several occasions during the night and it had been hard to fall back asleep each time.

"If you say so" he looked at Matty a bit before stating; "You look like you haven't ate in years! There's a coffee shop in the waiting area if you want something. A bit pricy but I don't mind paying."

Matty didn't want Jamie to pay for him but he wouldn't be able to buy himself a proper meal and he sure felt like he hadn't eaten in years.

"That'd be nice actually." Matty replied, half-heartedly accepting Jamie's proposition and making the mental note to pay him back later.

"Great, follow me."

Matty nodded and turned to pick up his bag. They started walking, not saying anything.

When they arrived at the coffee shop, Jamie asked Matty for what he wanted, Matty didn't want him to spend too much so he asked for a muffin and some tea, hoping it was the cheapest things in there.

Jamie walked to the counter to order and Matty took a seat at one of the small rounded tables. The coffee shop had a comforting smell of fresh pastries, and Matty gladly breathed in the scent.

He looked over at Jamie who was ordering and the lady looked up at matty, as if trying to figure him out. He was used to it by now though. Everyone staring at him because of the way he dressed or the makeup he liked to put on. He did it as an act of confidence, to not be ashamed like he used to be when he still wasn't out. When he still had a girlfriend.
