He ran away
Home didn't feel like home anymore, it felt like hell and Matty was scared of hell. He prefered freezing than having to endure the burning heat of this hypothetical hell, so while his family slept peacefully on a Friday night, Matty ran away from home. The only thing he left was a note that read 'I got a plane in the middle of the night. Don't search for me.'
After high school Matty had either lost his friends or the ones left secretly hated him so he only had one person he could run to, only one place he could go and even if he was scared of going there, he couldn't possibly see himself staying in his house any longer.
So after crying in his room for an hour, he packed a bag with the things he would need, quietly snuck out by his window and bought a cheap plane ticket to Brighton.
It was now one in the morning and Matty was scared shitless. He had left his phone at his house so there was no way his parents could track him down. It was reassuring to know he wouldn't get caught but without a phone he couldn't call for help if he was in danger and that was only stressing him more. He could almost see the headlines already. 'Actress Denise Welch's son, found dead at 19 in the streets of Manchester'.
He had been planning to run away for over a week now. Countless hours trying to get himself to leave, but Matty was scared and no amount of time could have ever prepared him for what he would encounter: loneliness.
No one could help him now, he was on his own. Running on the sidewalk with a one way plane ticket in one hand, a duffel bag in the other. It was colder than he'd expected and he was shivering like fuck. As to worsen the situation, the plane was also leaving soon so he had to get to the airport as quickly as possible, running in the pouring rain with only a leather jacket to protect him from the cold.
He could have taken the bus. That is, if he would've brang himself to steal some money from his parents' wallets. But even though Matty was running away, he still felt bad about it and especially didn't want to steal. He had saved just enough for a plane ticket and wasn't able to afford the bus ride. Because of that he was now freezing and running on a sidewalk in the cold night air of Manchester, in the even colder rain, thinking of how much he was a fuck-up.
After about 15 minutes that felt more like an hour, Matty arrived at the airport. Luckily the plane was still boarding so he quickly went to the checking desk, gave his ticket, grabbed his bag tightly and ran to the warmth of the plane before his fingers could fall off from hypothermia.
He took a seat next to the window and slid off the soaking wet jacket from his also soaking wet shirt. The seat was now also wet and he could tell the lady occupying the seat beside his was staring at him weirdly. It also didn't help that Matty liked to wear girly clothes and probably still had makeup on from the other day. He tried to catch his breath from all the running but his nervous self wasn't helping him to calm down.
He was especially stressed because the only place he could go to was George's house. They hadn't talked in a while but Matty knew George would let him stay, or at least he hoped so. There was no turning back now anyways, The plane had just took off.
After high school, George moved in Brighton and Matty hadn't heard from him since. They didn't argue or anything. George just wanted to leave for the south of England to get a house somewhere close to the beach but by doing that he stopped talking to Matty and the most of their friends. Ross and Adam went to live with John in Liverpool so Matty was the only one that was left in Wilmslow. Matty and George had always been very close until then. Matty liked George and George had always had a soft spot for Matty. They never thought more of it thought, they were just Matty and George and that was enough.
"We will arrive later than expected due to the rain, we are sorry for any inconveniences." a loud voice spoke through the speakers, scaring Matty who was about to fall asleep.
After long minutes of trying to sleep again, Matty couldn't stop thinking. About the house he left, the people he left, his family. But he had left them for a reason and he wasn't planning on going back. Not after what happened. He still felt ashamed. After all it was his decision to leave so if there was anyone to blame it was himself. He finally decided he would sleep in the airport once he arrived in Brighton because he couldn't get himself to sleep in the plane.
The rest of the flight was just Matty staring through the window. There was something mesmerizing about the city lights from above. It was one of the only things that kept him sane during plane flights. The lights would draw patterns, becoming brighter in the more populated parts of the towns. Matty felt like he was travelling in a different way when he was above a town. He couldn't see the details but it made the towns seem more intriguing that way. He'd have to go back one day to completely explore the details of towns he'd seen glimpses of from above.
After what seemed like ages the plane landed in Brighton and Matty was finally able to get up and stretch his legs that were aching from the flight. He felt so tired he could sleep while standing so he grabbed his bag, quickly got out of the plane and started looking for a place to sleep.
After walking around the airport he found a wooden bench close to the exit and used his bag as a pillow, laying down to finally get some rest. It wasn't comfortable but he'd have to deal with it for that night since he couldn't afford staying in a hotel. He would start searching for George's house when he'd wake up in the morning.
Still unable to fall asleep despite how tired he was, he tried to remind himself of George as much as he could. Hoping he hadn't changed too much and that he didn't hate Matty like all of his friends in Wilmslow did. He ended up thinking of the way George smiled and it made him smile too.
So after a while Matty drifted to sleep with thoughts of George now on his mind.

Hey so I'm gabe.
This isn't the first story I'm writing but it's the first that I'm actually planning on finishing.
I made the first chapter shorter than the length I'm planning on writing for the next chapters, so I guess you could count this as the prologue.
I already know I'll love this story.
Anyways, votes and comments are always appreciated.
Love ya loves.
