Fall Apart

We had arrived in Hawaii shortly after noon, leaving us the rest of the day to begin our vacation activities. Riley's mom had rented us a house for the next two weeks. Gorgeous home with five bedrooms and three bathrooms with a pool. There was also an incredible view of the ocean that you could see right from the kitchen. I just knew I was going to have a great time here, hopefully.

I stood out back taking in the ambiance and smelling the crisp air. The Hawaiian breeze blew my hair back. For a moment I felt secure, I felt safe. "Hey" A familiar voice calls out to me and I felt their hand on the small of my back. "How's my girl?"

"Good. Just taking in this amazing view" I turn to face him wrapping my arms around his neck. "We're going to have such an amazing time"

"Of course we are" He looks back at my group friends huddled in the kitchen. "First, I want to meet this Josh guy"

My eyes wander towards Josh who had been occasionally glancing over at us. "Why do you want to do that when we could go to our room and break in the bed?"

Darren smirks. "As much fun as that sounds...let's go" He grabs my hand and we walk over to the rest of the group where Riley was giving out orders already.

"...so I figured, obviously, Lucas and I share a room, as with Farkle and Smackle. That would leave you, uncle Josh in a room by yourself" She clarifies then turning her gaze to me. "Maya...and Darren, you guys can share the downstairs bedroom."

I nod. "Sounds great"

"Now, everyone go get settled in" Lucas starts. "I figure about a hour we could all hit the beach and later tonight we can go to a club" Everyone nods grabbing their luggage and heading to their assigned room.

"Josh" I call out and he turns to me. "This is Darren, my boyfriend. He wanted to meet you."

"Uh, hi" Josh awkwardly stuck his hand out to shake Darren's.

"So you're Josh, nice to meet you" he places his arm possessively around my waist. "I look forward to the next two weeks."

"As do I" the two seemed to have a stare down for a few seconds before breaking contact. "I should go unpack." Josh then disappeared going upstairs.

"He's charming" Darren says as we unpack our clothes. "So, you had a little crush on him?"

"Yeah, I did, I was crazy for him" I state sounding happier than I had intended which caused him to grab my arm, twisting on it. "Ow" I shout, wincing in pain.

"Look, I saw the way you looked at him, you better keep your distance. Understood?"

"You're really hurting me"

He tightened his grip. "Do I make myself clear?" This time I nod and we're soon  interrupted by a knock on the door. He stares down at me for a few seconds longer before going over to open the door.

"We're going to be heading down to the beach, if you guys chose to join us" Farkle says cheerfully.

"We'll be down. Just gotta change into our swimsuits" Darren answers getting Farkle to leave. "Hurry and get dressed. I mean what I said. You better keep your distance, or else."

Down at the beach I sat on my towel burying my feet in the sand while watching my friends enjoy the fresh water, along with Darren, who kept looking back at me. My arm had started to show signs of bruising, so I had been keeping my distance from everyone else, enjoying my own company for a short while.

"Hey" Josh says drying his hair and neck with his towel before laying it out next to mine and sitting down. "Why aren't you out there with your boyfriend?"
