Behind it All

Chapter One

      "Hey Scarlet! Come over here!"

      As I walk in the school doors, a group of people are calling me over. "Hey guys. What's up?" I take my seat next to all my friends as we greet each other.

     "The sky obviously." A chuckle came from her. That's my friend, Susie. We've known each other since 2nd grade. She has always been the clown of the group. Somehow after everything that has happened, she's still able to be so... happy. If I ever need a smile, I come to her.

    I never want to lose her.

     Jake, another friend of mine, asks, "What you got there?"

     I look over to him. "Oh, this? It's just my notebook. I keep all my drawings in here. " I lift up my notebook, signaling that I was holding it.

     "May is see it?" He asked, holding his hand out.

    "Sure!" I hand my notebook over to him and he starts flipping through the pages, examining it. He nods his head while looking through the book with Susie looking over his shoulder. "These are really good. I like it."

     "Yea! You should make an anime!" Susie smiles and shapes the top of her hands with her chin, looking angelic as she says. "I could be in it."

      Jake and I chuckle as he returns my notebook. "Thank you!" I said. "Some of these I'm proud of, but I personally think I suck."

     I know, I know. People hate it when I say that. But I just can't help myself! My self esteem is crap anymore.

       This just makes Susie's eyes roll. "Anyways, I've heard that there's a new girl coming to our school. I've heard she's from New York."

     This catches my interest. "Oh really? Does anyone know what she's like?" Susie just shakes her head.

    Suddenly there is a tap on my shoulder, and I look behind me. "Yes?" I look up, and my crimson blue eyes are met with green ones.

    "Could I sit here?" She asks quietly.

    "Sure, go right ahead!" I answer, gesturing her to sit.

     Jake studies her. "Are you new here?"

      "Yeah, I am. How did you guess? Are there already rumors about me going around?" She looks as if she's scared for an answer.

   "Yeah." Everyone says at once.

     The new girl sighs in response. "Anyways, my name is Rebbecah. Nice to meet you guys." She holds her hand out for someone to shake.

      Susie is the first to shake her hand. "Nice to meet you, too! I'm Susan, but everyone calls me Susie." Susie gestures to each friend, doing the introductions. "This is Jake, and this is Scarlet."

    I wave at her with a smile. Jake and I take turns shaking her hand as well. "Welcome to Preston High!"

    Rebbecah smiles. "Thank you."

     The school bell finally rings, meaning that breakfast is over. 

   "Oh, well nice meeting you!" Susie and Jake wave as we say our goodbyes. Before I leave, I ask if Rebbecah needed any help getting around the school. She accepts the request, and we start touring the school. I tell her where all the classes are and what she needs for every class. After the tour, I help her open her new locker, then wave goodbye and leave.
