She had noticed something was different. The mood of the clan was down, her mother was sad, and the camp seemed one cat emptier. Howlingkit watched her mother be surrounded by other cats saying comforting things to her.
Howlingkit was feeling lazy and tired. All she wanted to do was take a nap next to her mother's warm fur. She waited for her mom to come back towards the tree den. They didnt say anything and curled up in the next together. Howlingkit felt uncomfortable and decided to come up with great insults to her big brother. She liked doing that.
After a good long nap, Sunstar woke up the kits. Howlingkit wasnt very excited to wake up, but if her mom woke her up, certainly something interesting must happen.
"I am going to teach you two how to swim!" Sunstar purred
Howlingkit was interested, and eagerly followed her mother and brother over to the water. Sunstar demonstrated how to swim. She excitedly hopped into the water and did her best to copy her mother. Nevertheless, Howlingkit couldnt seem to keep her paws going fast enough and began to sink. She looked below the water and was amazed at what she saw. With a sudden burst of energy, she flailed over to where she could stand.
"Foosh!!!" Howlingkit squealed.
Sunstar gave her daughter a smile, "Yes, Fish."
Wanderkit giggled at his sister and she smacked him, as she always does. Howlingkit watched the fish while he swam. She decided that swimming was never going to be her thing. She felt safer on the ground with her paws on the dirt or in a tree. Howlingkit didnt realize this would be a lifechanging desicion, but nobody would have at this point. Her little kitten brain would never guess what was ahead of her.
