Hi everyone, and welcome to my new food blog.
My name is Dominic Mod and I work as the Head chef at Café Cosy, a very nice little cafe that specializes in down-to-earth homey comfort foods.
I'm usually a very very shy and quiet person when I'm pulled out of my comfort zone, also known as my kitchen, but today something happened that has inspired me to begin this blog.
It was a fairly quiet day in the cafe, so I had time to do a little people watching from the safety of my kitchen. All of the guests were already eating and I was enjoying their faces as they tasted the different homemade dishes that I had produced.
Then the bell over the door rang, signaling that a new customer had arrived. I very quickly hid behind the kitchen door, leaving the greeting of the customer to Jeannie, the head waiter.
Not too long after, Jeannie came into my kitchen and shook her head. "I have an interesting customer Dom!" She said "I think that you will have to come out and have a chat before you can cook for her. I know that you have the time, so no excuses!"Jeannie can be a bossy little brat when the mood strikes her! But I just love seeing her with her big Viking of a husband. She's almost like an arrogant little kitten strutting around a huge calm dog. And then he gives her this "look" and she is instantly ready to follow him anywhere. They seem so perfect for each other and I envy the closeness that they seem to share! I even jokingly call her husband Major Nelson when he's not around, because they remind me of the old sitcom. Jeannie really loves her husband and will bend over backwards to please him it seems. So I find that comparison perfect!
But when Major Nelson isn't around, she can be a real pain in the ass! Present situation included!
I sighed deeply, tried to square my shoulders and give myself a quick pep talk. "The customer does not care about what you look like Dominic! The customer cares about the food that you will make! Get out there now!"
When I got to the table the very pretty girl sitting there gave me a big beautiful smile. "I'm very sorry to pull you out of your kitchen Sir!" She said apologetically "But I have some dietary restrictions that the very nice waitress was not sure if you could help me with." Her amazing Indian accent had me forgetting my shyness for the moment.
"I will see if I can help you Miss." I answered. She shook her head "Please call me Shweta Sir. My problem is this. I'm on a keto diet, but I'm also a vegetarian. I feel like I have been surviving by eating my wallpaper and I need something tasty! Do you think that you can make something for me?"
I nodded"Yes Miss Shweta. I know exactly what to make for you. Please enjoy a cup of tea while you wait!"
As I got back to the kitchen, I quickly found what I needed and it didn't take me too long to whip up a very delicious creamy mushroom soup. Feeling brave because of the seemingly sweet nature of Miss Shweta, I decided to bring her the dish myself. As I exited the kitchen, I could hear Miss Shweta crack jokes with Jeannie and I couldn't help but shake my head. It would seem that Jeannie had found a kindred spirit with a mind just as dirty as her own.
"Here you go Miss Shweta. Unfortunately I didn't have ingredients for an appropriate bread to serve you, but please enjoy this soup!"
It seemed very much like she did exactly that, because afterwards she asked me very politely to come over to her table again.
She asked me if I would please please write down the recipe for her and perhaps do it online. That would give her less of a chance to lose it. Because she had been so very sweet, I agreed.
And that brings me to why I started writing this in the first place. The recipe has been changed a little to include none keto ingredients and bacon in the topping...
