The first memory that I have of my brothers is on my twin and mines 6th birthday. My oldest brother's, Michael is 2 years older than us, he was making mac & cheese with hot dogs. That's all he knows how to make. My middle brother Gabriel, 1 years older, was making cupcakes he learned by watching the food network. Lucifer and I were playing in the yard just being kids.
"Gabe, mom's not going to be home tonight." Michael said.
"What? She has to be, what are we going to tell the twins?" Gabe asked.
"The same thing we tell them every night. Mom is working late."
"How long is that going to work? Heaven is already asking questions." Gabe sassed back. Before Mike could answer Luci came running into the kitchen tears running down his face, the tears turning his dirty written face bright red. Mike and Gabe left the area where they were working at and knelt in front of him.
"Luci what's wrong?" Gabe asked while wiping Luci's tears away.
Heaven fell." Luci cries.
"What do you mean Heaven fell?" Mike asked.
"She fell out of the tree and fell hard on her head." After Luci finished what he said Gabe and Mike ran outside to go find Heaven while Luci stayed and cried.
They found Heaven under the big oak tree in the backyard. When Mike and Gabe were younger their mom used to yell at them to stop playing in the oak tree. They never understood why she'd always yell. But now they did looking up at the tree, they can see that the lower branches are alive but the higher branches were dead. Heaven was face down in the ground with a tree branch on top of her head. Both boys ran to their younger sister screaming her name, she didn't respond. Mike had enough of a mind space to call the police. Gabe had picked up Heaven and was rocking back and forth cradling her head when Mike came back.
"She is not breathing Mike. We have to do something."
"Put her down i'm going to give her CPR." Taking Heaven from Gabe's arms. He then started to give her CPR. By the time the ambulance came Mike got Heaven breathing again. The paramedic got her in the ambulance.
The brothers get in the ambulance, the paramedic noticed how weirdly similar they are. Mike had Gabe under his right arm, they share the same sun kissed blonde hair. On his left he had Luci, they shared the same bright blue eyes. Only Luci and Gabe were in tears, Mike stared at their sister with unblinking dull eyes.
By the time they got to the hospital two out of the three had dried tears on their face, unwilling to wipe them off. The three were left in the waiting room, and the youngest was whisked away. The adults around the waiting room were wary of the lonely children that keep to themselves and did not make eye contact.
People came and went and the children did not move, the nurses watched them and none moved a muscle. If someone where to stare at them it would seem like they stopped breathing. After a couple of hours, one of the children finally moved, Mike slowly walked to the information desk, under Mike intense stare the nursing staff got very uncomfortable.
"Excuse me, can I get some info on my sister." Mike said with an adult attitude.
"Yes, name?" she asked not meeting his eyes.
"Heaven Bernardo." He replied, trying to see over the counter at the computer.
"She just finished testing and the doctor will call when he is ready."
"OK." He goes and sits down with his brothers. A half and hour later a doctor wake in to the waiting room.
"Family for Bernardo." The three brothers stood up and walked to him.
"Yes." They said all at once.
"Where is your parents?"
"Our mother cant make it." Mike said. The two others looked at each other.
"Okay, well your sister is very sick." The Doctor talked to them as if they were young children.
"We.are.not.children" Gabe said angrily.
"umm...well we are not sure what is hurting your sister or how to stop it," The Doctor said, getting a little nervous.
"WHAT!" The three yelled. They ran around the Doctor trying to find their sister. After running around the hospital for a few minutes they finally found their sister. They stood in the door way, looking at their pale sleeping sister. Until Luci started to cry again and run toward his twin. When their mother finally got off work, they learned how bad Heaven sicken really is , and how much it would change all of their lived forever. Or for the next ten years of theirs lives.
