"I used to recognize myself. It's funny how reflections change. When we're becoming something else. I think it's time to walk away"

"Hey Jasmine," someone said. I recognized her voice.

I turned around. "Hey Olivia, what's up?"

Olivia Young, the meanest girl of the school. How could such an awful person be so popular. Okay maybe that's pathetic. It's not like I have any reason to be popular either. But I'm not as mean as her. And it's not like I want to be popular. She loves it.

Anyway, if she liked you, she was kind of nice actually. But you do not want to mess with her.

She will make your life a living hell.

Oh and before I forget, she was my best friend. Whatever the fuck that means.

But that was until last summer.

That's when things changed. She ruined my life, she broke me.

As if I wasn't broken already.

I tried not to think about it too much. But I didn't want to forget, and I wasn't going to.

It wasn't possible. Not an option.

"I'm alright, just really tired you know," she said.

"Oh yeah, how was the party? Did you get wasted?"

"It was fun. I enjoyed it, we didn't get drunk though. We just stayed up till late," she smiled.

"Sounds like fun," I returned a smile, just as fake as hers.

"So how was your summer?" she asked.

"I had a lot of fun, what about you?" I was still smiling.

"I'm glad you had fun, that's very nice. Did you party a lot? I hope you didn't have to much to drink."

Fucking bitch.

No. Yes. Hell no.

But that's not what I said.

"Yea it was great," I wasn't smiling anymore.

She gave me one last very fake smile and walked away. Finally. I turned around facing my locker again.

"Jas, I missed you!" someone from behind me said.

I turned around again.

"Hi Cath, I missed you too!" I gave her a hug.

Cath was one of my best and only friends. We weren't as close as I and Aus were. But I liked her. She was cool.

"I wish we could've hang out more, Florida was a lot of fun though."

"Oh that's great, we can hang out now though," I smiled, actually smiled.

"You wanna skip class," she laughed and I joined her.

"Well, you know what I mean. How about tomorrow?"

"Sure, sounds fun. I'll see you later!"

"Bye, I'll see you tomorrow then," I said as I got interupted by the bel.

My first class was History.

"Ugh," I groaned.

I hate History. I just don't get why we're spending so much time on learning about the past.

I know we can't forget everything and just move on.

We can forgive but we can't forget.

But why do we spend so much time on it. How can we live if we're worrying so much about the past. Life goes on. And it's not going to wait for you.

I know, there's things that I can't let behind me. I just try not to think about it.

After the bell rang I made my way into class. Everyone was staring at me. Or atleast that's what it felt like.

I sat down.

I just tried to ignore everyone and pretend they weren't there.

I decided to sit in the back. Alone. Hopefully no one would notice me. Ugh, I hate this being popular thing.

Mr. Jacobs walked in. I just wanted to leave already. Maybe I should've skipped class when I still had the chance.

"Hello class," he said, " today we're going to be discussing why history is important. Why do we learn about our past? What's the point of it?"

You've got to be kidding me.

"Ms. Grey, what do you think? Why is history so important?"

Everyone stared at me. Everyone. They all waited, wondering what I was going to say.

I didn't even know it myself so I just started talking.

"I, um, I think history is important because," I didn't know what to say.

"Well, honestly I don't think it's important at all," oops, shouldn't have said that.

"And why is that?" our teacher asked.

"Well, what's the point? We keep thinking about the past. About the things that have happened to us. But there's no point. It's not like we can change it. And yes, we learn from our mistakes. But it's pointless to worry about it. We can't change it."

He looked a bit confused. Maybe I should've just told him what he wanted to hear.

He was about to say something but he got interupted.

Someone walked in. A guy.

I started checking him out. He was pretty attractive. Dark blond hair, hazel eyes, a cute-

Oh.

It took me about 5 seconds to recognize him.

That's not just an unknown guy with nice hair.

I know exactly who that is.

Shit.
