River paced back and forth in front of the cave, continuously looking outwards for any signs of an approaching wolf, his red and white pelt russling in the breeze. When he saw none, he continued his pacing. A little she-wolf pup stuck her head out from behind a rock at the back of the dreary cave.
”Is he here yet?” She asked with a shaky voice. River shook his head.
”No, but he will be soon so go back behind the rock and stay quiet.” He ordered. It was a couple more minutes before River could see a figure walking towards the den. River gave a small growl as a signal to the hiding pup. “Father.” River said as the wolf approached, lowering his head. The red wolf snarled and grabbed Rivers muzzle, shoving him to the ground. River whined.
”Lower!” The male wolf growled before releasing him and stepping farther into the cave. River shot dagger eyes through the back of the Male wolves head as he stood up, licking the blood off his snout. “Where’s Foxy?” The Male Wolf barked.
"Not here.” River mumbled. The wolf swiftly turned to face him.
"You know I don’t appreciate mumbling! Speak!” He snarled.
"She’s not here.” He said through clenched teeth although it was loud and clear. The Wolf barred his teeth.
”Do you take me as a fool? I can scent her!” He snarled. River gulped as he realized he hadn’t covered her scent. “NOW WHERE IS SHE!” He roared. Foxy whimpered as she came out from behind the rock, tail tucked and ears flat. Her red pelt was suddenly streaked with blood and she gave out a scream as the wolf lashed at her. “NEVER hide from me AGAIN! UNDERSTOOD?” He growled in a threatening voice. Foxy nodded viciously, retreating to her nest near the front of the cave, licking her tender side in silence. The wolf turned to River, who was at Foxy’s nest, helping to clean her up. “YOU! COME HERE RIGHT NOW!” He yowled with a seething anger. River glared at him, whispered something to Foxy who gasped with wide eyes and a shaking head, then stood to face his father. River remained still as his fathers claws raked his face twice. Blood dripped down his muzzle as he look up towards his father. “Let this be a lesson! NEVER HIDE YOUR SISTER FROM ME!” With that he twisted around and as he stalked away, called over his shoulder. “Go hunt, I’m hungry.” Before lying down on his nest in the far back. River gave one more look to Foxy who had wide eyes and was shaking her head, mouthing ‘no, don’t do it’. River ignored her attempts as he stayed still and faced his father.
”No.” The word was simple, yet powerful. The wolves head perked up with surprise before he bared his teeth in a threatening manner.
”No?” He asked. “NO!” He got up and stalked towards River who held his ground. “You little disrespectful, ungrateful, BRAT! Do you think your better then me? Can defy my orders? Who lets you sleep in their den?! Who takes care of you?!” He ranted as he came closer.
”Not you.” River growled. “This is mother’s den! I take care of everyone here, including you, and yes, I am better than you! I help! I treat wolves with kindness! I don’t hurt others! YOUR JUST AN OVER GLORIFIED SWINE!” River snarled. The Wolf gave an angry cry before lunging at River.
”HOW DARE YOU!” He yowled. The two latched in a claw-slashing tangle, threatening to tear eachother apart. Foxy yelled as they landed in her nest, she quickly scattered out of the way as the males fought.
”I’M TIRED OF YOU TREATING US LIKE THE DIRT BENEATH YOUR FEET AND YOU HURTING US LIKE POISONESS BARBS STUCK IN OUR PELTS! I WILL NO LONGER STAY UNDER YOUR COMMAND!” River yelled as he swiped his claws at his fathers muzzle, causing blood to well up and drip to the floor. The wolf snapped at Rivers neck.
”I SHOULD HAVE GOTTEN RID OF YOU WHEN I DID YOUR MOTHER, YOU USLESS PEICE OF MOUSE DUNG!” He seethed. "AND YOUR JUST LIKE HER! TO BOTHERED ABOUT BEING KIND AND CARING! BUT YOU FORGET, LOVE IS WEAKNESS!" River narrowed his eyes and snarled, overpowering the male and slamming him on his back with his belly exposed. The wolf looked up at him with surprise and fear.
”P...P...Please d...don’t h...h...hurt m...me.” He bagged. River bared his teeth and snarled.
”Like you would have?” River gave a half hearted laughed. “You wouldn’t so why should I?” He asked, teeth inches away from the wolf face.
”B...b...because I’m your father!” He blurted out.
"AND I’M YOUR SON! WOULD THAT HAVE MADE ANY DIFFERENCE TO YOU? NO IT WOULDN'T HAVE!” He snarled. “YOU FREAKEN KILLED YOUR OWN MATE! YOU DON'T CARE ABOUT ANYONE BUT YOUR OWN STINKIN' SELF!” The wolf shrunk under Rivers angry gaze. "THE ANSWER IS THAT I’M NOT YOU! SO BE GONE AND NEVER CONE BACK OR I WILL SHOW YOU NO MERCY!” River gave the wolf a hard bite on his shoulder to show it wasn't an empty threat before getting off. He turned to face his father, ears forward, teeth bared, hankles raised, tail straight out, and in a deadly fighting stance. The wolf got up and sprinted towards the opening in the cave. Just before he left, he yelled over his back.
”Wrong move. Mercy will always come back to bite you back in the end.” He hissed before disappearing into the fog. River held his pose for a few moments more, trying to process what had just conspired. He finally collapsed, tears rolling down his face, agony plastered on his face. He felt Foxy curl up into his side, trying to bring him confort.
"When did everything get so messed up?" He asked to the open air. Once he was exhausted from the tears, he finally rested his head on his paws and curled protectively around his sleeping sister. "I promise no one will ever harm you again." He whispered into Foxy's ear. She gave a slight stir but did not wake up. "Sleep well my precious sister, for no one will harm you now or ever again. You are finally safe."
