Niel slowly stepped towards the shaking door. He could tell the rapping was becoming more and more impatient, and he was worried they would start trying to kick it down. He quickly unlocked the door and pulled it open, facing a similarly cloaked harpy with a deep scowl. He immediately shoved past him, and he could see there was one more harpy behind him, making for three total. Akira protectively put a wing over both Beaver and Thora as he turned to face them, frowning. Niel froze at the doorstep as he felt a sharp jab in the back, forcing him to stop moving.
"One step, and I'll slice you to ribbons," the scratchy voice growled threateningly, just centimetres from his ear.
Akira faced the poacher with a cool expression as he eyed her warily.
"A harpy, here. What are you doing so far from Anemos, little one? You wouldn't have run away, have you?"
"So what if I had? No one dictates my life."
Niel saw him reach behind him into the clock, slowly drawing out a dagger. He wanted to shout out a warning, but the knife was still jabbing into his back.
"You shouldn't be here. Move, and give us the Arcani. Or simply hand over the dove, and we'll leave you alone."
"Not like I'll give you either."
"Your contributions will be greatly appreciated, my fellow harpy. We have plans to restore the greatness of our species. We have plans for a greater future. Won't you join us ad be proud of your heritage?"
"I care none about heritage. I only care about the now."
The man pulled the dagger into full view, silver blade glinting wickedly in the sunlight slipping through the window illuminating the scene. The air was tense as the two stared each other down, before the harpy finally let out a long drawn sigh.
"Then you leave me... choiceless."
The dagger flashed through the air, spinning over and over like a wheel out of control. Niel sucked in his breath, but she pulled up her arm in front of her and an ice shield materialised out of thin air. The dagger lodged into the ice, quivering on impact.
The harpy looked surprised for a second, and he also noticed him clench up his fist as if scared. "A... Bond. " He stook a small step back. "You have a Bond with them."
Akira summoned a number of icicles, pointing all of them at him. He took another step back, eyes darting around him, looking towards Niel frantically.
"Yes, I do. I know more than you ever will, because you fools don't have the kindness to truly learn how to co-exist and survive with these animals. Your operations won't work."
"Oh, foolish. You can say that now, but we will succeed. At any cost." He stood up again, regaining his confidence as he took out two more daggers. "And it will begin with your surrender... and his death."
Niel reacted by running forwards, lurching away from the knife, and the harpy turned and threw one of the daggers towards him. He could hear the rushing sound of another dagger behind him, and he knew he was cornered, stopping dead in his tracks, eyes darting frantically to look for an escape route. Before he could, an ice tower burst out of the ground, debris shoved to the side and wood splintering as it lifted him upwards abruptly, the daggers colliding with the ice.
"You're fighting against a swarm of sharks, girl! Give it up already!"
"Sharks? You want sharks?" A cold glow illuminated behind her, spreading through the room slowly in waves as ice materialised, forming into rigid, deadly sharp spears. "That's funny, because sharks live in the ocean. This is Ershire, old man. You know, desert city? Seems like you'd be a beached shark now, huh?"
