Chapter 1:
"Okay, we're gonna kill it today." I said as I made sure I had all of my supplies in my bag. I did a glance in the mirror to check my teeth. I smoothed my dark brown hair, and pulled my shirt on.
I opened the door as I slid my shoes on. Hannah gave me a muffled response. We were up late last night getting our dorm room situated. We've moved it around about three times already, and we've just been here a week. It's a beautiful campus. The medical program is the best here in Virginia. It's only my second time in a big city, but I wanted change. I needed it actually. There was so much I felt like I was missing out on.
I held my face up to the sun while I was walking across the commons area. Which was simply a terrible idea. The commons area is made of cobblestone, so I tripped, expectedly. When I say tripped, face plant seems more accurate. I was immediately turning red, so I just stood up.
As I bent down to pick up my bag, I saw someones tattooed hand slowly reach out to gather my things. I looked up slowly to see a guy squatting in front of me. He offered me a warm smile as we both rose at the same time. I gave him a shy smile and tucked a piece of hair behind my ear.
"Thank you." I said breathlessly.
He laughed and said, "My pleasure. Very graceful, by the way."
I raised my eyebrows, "Well, I took ballet when I was little, so I think I still have it in me...Sorry, that was terrible; it was supposed to be funny. I have a very dry sense of humor." Nicely done. I shouldn't be allowed to socialize with anyone.
To my surprise, he laughed and shook his head.
"No, you're fine! Well, I have to get to class. My name is Dylan, by the way." He gave me a half smile, and held his hand out.
"Nice to meet you. I'm Jade." I shook his hand. I gave him one last smile before I turned around to go to class. I couldn't register the details I picked up on him during our encounter. He was about 6'2. I had to look up at him when we stood. He had dark brown hair, like perfect bedhair. He had beautiful blue eyes. I turned around while walking to see if I could see him. He was still standing there watching me leave. He gave a smirk and a little wave. I laughed and kept walking.
First day of college. So far so good.
