I opened the door to my literature class. I was earlier than everyone else. I prefer it that way, because it gives me time to settle in. I laid all of my notes out and grabbed my copy of Jane Eyre. Jenna usually sits beside me, but she texted me saying she wouldn't be here for the next few days. I was reading when I felt someone sit down beside me. I glanced up from my book to see Alex sitting there in all of his glory. He noticed me and gave me a surprisingly sweet smile. I gave one in return just to keep the peace.
I returned to reading when he said, "What are you reading?"
I simply turned my book in order for him to see the title.
"You enjoy those kinds of books?" he asked with a skeptical tone.
"What do you mean 'those kinds of books'?"
He angled himself towards me, "Those sappy love stories."
"They're not sappy. Besides what would you know about any love stories?"
He scoffed, "I'm offended, and I do read a little myself. Don't be so quick to judge."
"Well, I'm just saying you don't seem like the type of person to read love stories."
"Actually ask a person before you assume then." He snapped.
I can tell I insulted him, but I really didn't care. He insulted me in a way assuming I'd be interested the other day. I shouldn't feel bad for any of what just occured. He should feel like shit for being that way towards girls. We both sat there in silence for the rest of the class. Tension was evident and I couldn't wait until class was over. I mean, I barely took any notes on the book. Which made me even more upset at him, because that's the whole purpose of me showing up early; to calm down and settle in.
At the end I stood up quickly and dropped my book. I partially debated just leaving it there, but I decided against it. I sighed and bent over to pick it up.
"Jade?" Alex's voice clearly rang through my ears.
I turned around slowly, waiting for some smart elick comment.
"I'm sorry." He said gently and walked off. The sound of his boots echoing throughtout the now empty room.
I just stood there a minute before heading to the closest restaurant.
As I walked out of the main campus building I seen Alex casually leaning against is car, with five other people surrounding him. They were talking and he honestly didn't seem to be listening. I observed them three were guys and two were girls. The girls were pretty, but wore revealing shirts. They basically resembled fucking dogs sitting there waiting for attention. The other three guys were very attractive. All had tattoos visible. They looked like the type of people I should avoid. Afterall, I'm the stiff right?
I was about to look away when one of the girls spotted me. This girl had straight black hair. She leaned over to Alex and whispered something. Just as I expected he looked up and saw me. Ahh, there it is, that cocky smile has returned. He threw his arm around the black haired girl and she melted into a puddle. I shook my head in disgust and walked to the restaurant to meet Hannah, Chris, Jenna, and Dylan for lunch.

I seen where they were sitting and I made my way over.
"He's an...He's an asshole." I said.
"Okay, hi. Hope your day has been good." Hannah laughed.
"Who's the ass?" Dylan asked.
"Alex!" I squeaked, " first he insulted my book when I was minding my own business, said he was sorry, then flaunted a girl in front of me afterwards. I don't mind the girl part, it's just how he thinks he's drawing me in by doing it!" I had to catch my breath.
