I stand panting as a guy walks down the hallway into the room. He has blond hair, one of the guys I saw when we were outside. He watches me carefully looking at my once again burning hands.
“You might want to let go of the gun before it melts completely.” I look down at the gun that’s slowing dripping. I drop it, holding my hands, Mandy touches my back gently.
“Why does this keep happening?” I watch as they go to normal before looking at the guy, “Why?” He shrugs leaning against the wall.
“I can only guess, your recessive gene is coming out, a little.” He tilts his head, “You said it keeps happening, it happened before?” Mandy hugs me around my waist.
“At the building, she burned the room up, there was fire and everyone ran. That’s how we got out.” I look down at her. I started that fire? I made that huge burning mess, by myself?
“You have some power, only fire I’m guessing.” He walks towards me, “Better than most of us, we can’t do what you do.” I hear Shai scoff.
“No, we can fly and walk through walls. We can control people and move things. How can she do anything and why that of all things. She’s more dangerous than helpful, she can’t even control it.” She’s upset, clenching her fists, glaring at me. If she didn’t like me before safe to say she hates me now. Alina looks almost the same, just less angry.
“She’s like a Unamayee or weaker Curryo.” One of the women from outside stands next to the blonde guy, “She’s one of us but limited. And looks like only when triggered.” She studies me, “I would guess, life endangering situations.” Who are these people? The guy holds out his hand as if knowing what I was thinking.
“I’m Judah and this is Kimble, we’re here with Cedric and Blaz, you saw them earlier.” I nod, he pulls back his hand and settles for a wave, Mandy waves back.
Kimble looks at Mandy with a smile, she steps closer but stops when I move back.
“She’s a curryo, she feels so different, sweet almost.” I frown, “I can sense the gene in people, almost like smelling or tasting it but different.” I nod, strange. Judah rubs the back of his head pointing at Mandy.
“I can read her, but you.” He shakes his head, “I can only read you sometimes, it’s like you go in and out.” He sees the question on my face, “I can read people, or hear their thoughts rather but you’re difficult.” I back away.
Do these people expect me to just believe them and not assume their crazy? The sound of a car makes me look out the window, the headlights hit my face. I duck pulling Mandy with me.
“They found us. How the hell did they find us?” The car door opens and shuts as I try to find an exit, someone knocks at the door; tap tap, tap tap tap, tap. Alina races to open it. “Don’t.”
Someone grabs me, Judah and Kimble. They pull us up and stand before us.
“It’s okay, it’s okay I promise.” Kimble brushes the hair out of my face as Judah comforts a crying Mandy.
A boy walks in looking at us in surprise.
“Who are they?” Shai answers him in an annoyed voice.
“Alina’s sisters; Aj and Mandy.” He stares slowly nodding, raising his hand in a half wave.
“I’m Reese, nice to meet you.”
Mandy and I are sitting on the couch between Judah and Kimble as Cedric and Blaz stand behind us. Nonna, Alina, Shai, Theo, and Reese stand in front of us.
