I scream until my voice is hoarse and then scream some more. Blood is dripping down my arms and legs. One of the men, Andy, pulls out the electrical cords again.

“No, please.” I whisper. Andy pauses and the other man, Frank, pulls my head back roughly.

“Where are they?” I shake my head as much as I can with his grip.

“I don’t know.” Andy comes closer, “Please, I’m telling the truth, I really don’t know I-” I scream as he shocks me over and over again. They both laugh.

I wake up to cold water splashing me, I gasp.

“Wake up sunshine. Time to get to work.” I close my eyes, teeth chattering. “Oh, are you cold? Maybe we should start with warming you up first.” I hear a lighter click open. I shake my head trying to curl up.

“Please, stop. Please.” I try to talk but my voice is gone, I can barely move my mouth my face is so swollen. I feel heat on the palm of my hand, I try to pull away but the ropes are tight. I try to scream as my hand get unbearably hot.

The door opens and heels click through the room.

“That’s enough both of you.” Doctor, I try to look at her as the heat goes away but I can’t see much.

“But we’re just getting started, besides bosses orders.” The heat returns, I squirm. The doctor step forward and grabs his arm.

“I said, that’s enough.” They both grumble as the leave the room, when the door closes she turns to me. “I’m sorry, I can’t stop him, stop them.” My head falls to the side, I struggle to keep my eyes open.

The door bangs open, I try to look but everything feels too heavy. I feel the doctor move away.

“Doctor Sasha, you can imagine the surprise I felt when I heard you interrupted my men’s progress.” The doctor clears her throat.

“Progress in what? Killing her? Look, she can barely stay awake, I’m sure Reuben did not agree to this.” My eyes start to droop as the doctor screams a little.

“Progress in getting what we need out of her. And what Reuben doesn’t know doesn’t hurt him, now does it?” Their voices get quieter and quieter, why are they whispering?

Soon everything is silent, I try to make out what I'm seeing, what I’m not seeing. Someone shakes me and I try to react but I can’t my body’s stuck, frozen. Something smacks my face, shouldn't that hurt more than it does?  I’m going to sleep, just for a little while, I promise.

I wake up when I hit the ground, my eyes open, I see light through little slits. Someone’s yelling, but I can’t understand what they’re saying. I try to say Nonna, but my voice isn’t working. Mandy? Mandy? Nonna, Nonna. Sound slowing comes in more.

“You are worthless, I have no idea why Reuben thinks you’ll do us any good. You can barely talk or move, weakling.”

I frown, who’s Reuben? Why are they being so mean? What did I do?

“Of course she’s weak you idiot, look at what you’ve been doing to her for the last few weeks. I’d be surprised if she remembers anything at the moment.”

Who is that? Who is she talking about?

“That just shows how weak she is. How could she possibly be related to that girl, Alina? How?”

Alina, Alina, I know that name from somewhere.

“Did you ever stop to think that she doesn’t have the gene, if she did we would all be dead by now. I don’t think she knows anything, she was tricked by you after all.”

What gene? And who is she talking about, me?

“Shut it, Sasha. She knows something and she’s one of them whether she has the gene or not. We just have to get it out of her, and if that doesn’t work we always have the little one.”

Little one? Who’s the little one? Who are these people?

“I will not let you hurt the girl. I already questioned her, Mandy knows nothing.” Mandy, she said Mandy.

“Mandy,” I whisper. The conversation stops, “Mandy, where-” I cough wincing when my ribs hurt.

“Looks like we found her weakness. The girl, if we get to the girl she’ll sing like a bird.” Footsteps step away before the woman speaks.

“No, Reuben has her, she’s under he’s protection.” The movement stops, and something smashes to the floor.

“Protection? Protection? He’s protecting that that thing, that abomination?”

The footsteps come towards me, I feel pain all over my face and then I’m gone.
