Here I am, at school, staring through the windows of my class, with my chin resting upon my hand, as I build castles in the air. In case you haven’t noticed, I am currently trapped within the horrors of school, in this very building, behind these glass windows. I think I’m dying, as my teacher Mr Jones, talks about mysterious scientific facts that ache my brain. Someone needs to save me- fast, because dying young in a prison is not my way of ending life. Too much information is being stuffed in my brain, within every second you waste!

OK, I was just being dramatic there. I guess science just isn’t my thing. I have to say, I could qualify in drama class auditions though. My acting skills aren’t that bad. I could work on my acting skills and become a professional actor without having to even graduate but I wouldn’t call myself hardworking, or persistent. In fact, I have no idea how to describe myself. But if I could, I would be in my room with unlimited internet, Oreo ice-cream, snuggly bed, hair tied into a messy bun and music blasting in my ears. So judge me from there.

I stared at my reflection of the window on my left. I hadn’t changed one bit during the school holidays. I was still the same Evelynn Travord with the same emerald green eyes, just like my mother’s, and the same wavy hair, the colour of dead leaves.

After what seemed like forever, the bell rang and class was finally over. I quickly stuffed my textbooks and files into my bag, and got out of class. All I need right now, is to be in my room and be the Wi-Fi princess I’ve always ever been.

I headed to my locker to get some other books, when suddenly, a pair of hands wrapped around my eyes. The familiar smell of lavender filled my nostrils, and I knew exactly who it was. I laughed, as I turned around and saw a familiar girl with light brown hair tied up into a messy ponytail and gorgeous blue eyes. I present you; Valerie Cross everybody.

“Boo!” she said, her eyes widening. Valerie was beyond perfect. Smart, pretty, funny – any guy would fall for her. “How was science class?” she asked. She smirked, knowing at the fact that I was probably daydreaming.

“You know me too well” I laughed, reading her smirk. She had always been the smarty-pants anyway, so I wasn’t surprised.

“Well, if you think science is hard, get ready for maths. You won’t like it” she warned me.

“Good to know” I sighed, hugging my textbooks tightly to my chest.

Valerie pulled out a leaflet from her bag, and waved it in my face “I was thinking of joining extracurricular clubs together”

“Sounds cool” I answered.

Valerie had her nose buried in the leaflet, while I gazed as we both walked to the school gates. Popular girls were doing their usual; flirting with guys. I overheard a brand new rumour which was definitely most likely brought up by Hailey Summers. She was the biggest gossiper in the school. And the sweetest couple of the year; Skylar and Fred broke up. There was always something happening in Oakwood High.

When we reached the school gates, I sat down on the fresh green grass, under a huge shady tree. It was our favourite spot. Here, the wind always seemed to be blowing softly, and the tree always gave us shade from the blazing sun. It was calm, and I would always take the opportunity to read my new books or write poems. Call me a nerd, but that’s just what I love doing.

I chuckled, as I watched Valerie reading the leaflet over and over again. I didn’t understand the logic of how she could focus so well. I, on the other hand, was always getting distracted, and daydreaming.

“What if we joined drama club?” suggested Valerie, who was still browsing through the leaflet.

“No. You know, drama just isn’t my thing” I reminded her.
