The house wasnts really a house. It was more of a mansion, and full of luxorious things. I was amazed with the amount of food around.
The lunch was crowded with people all over the neighbourhood. I found it awkward since I knew most of the people, but didn’t talk to them. I was never the type of person who knew how to make friends or even socialize. The sun was shining, and it was a beautiful day. Tables were set outside, at the yard with various species of flowers decorated everywhere. Balloons were tied up to trees too.
“Hi. I’m Lauren, from house number 60” smiled mum, pointing at our house across the street when she met the owner of the house.
“Glad you could make it! I’m Paula Harper” beamed the lady. She was pretty. Her brown hair had been tied into a ponytail, and her smile was very welcoming.
“Welcome to the neighbourhood Paula” mum said.
“Thanks” Paula answered. She turned to me, who was standing near mum. “Is this your daughter? She looks lovely”
I smiled, trying to make myself look polite as mum replied “Yes. Evelynn’s her name. She’s fourteen. Growing up so fast”
“Fourteen? I have a daughter who’s fourteen. Her name’s Sarah, let me go get her” replied Paula. She hurried off, inside the house.
Sarah Harper. I was pretty sure I heard that name in school. She was pretty, and quite popular. There was no way I was making friends with her. I was way out of her league.
Minutes later, Paula walked out with her daughter, Sarah. She gave me a dirty look, and didn’t seem to like me but as soon as she saw mum, she smiled as if she was the nicest girl ever.
"She's a pretty girl" commented mum.
Well duh, she was one of the popular girls from school. Of course, she had the looks.
"Thank you" smiled Sarah politely.
"Why don't you and Evelynn go and have fun? Theres lots of food, so go ahead and enjoy" suggested Paula.
Sarah walked away, her long hair flowing in the wind, as I followed behind. She wore a cream-pink coloured dress, which looked amazing on her. The dress on me made me look like a potatoe.
Sarah turned to me, and snickered "Why are you following me?"
"Oh.. um sorry" I apologized, standing there awkwardly.
She rolled her eyes looking extremely annoyed, and walked away as she flipped her hair in her face. That attitude though.
I helped myself to some spaghetti bolognaise and had some desserts. They tasted great. There were a variett of tarts, jelly, and cakes too.
I sat down on a table alone, under a tree as mum went inside the house to socialize with Paula and the rest of the neighbourhood. Mum could socialize perfectly well, but why couldn't I? What went wrong in my genes?
I continued eating, until I saw a guy who looked familiar, entering through the gates. He had midnight black hair, hazel brown eyes, and a charming smile. Sarah walked towards him, and hugged him.
I guess that was her boyfriend. I felt guilty at the thought that I used to have a crush on him last year, and think he was cute. Harris Hawkins was his name. If Sarah knew, I'd probably be dead.
Sarah and Harris held hands, as Sarah pulled him into the house. Harris was laughing happily, and they looked cute together.
But when was that going to happen to me? I'm sixteen, and haven't had my first boyfriend nor my first kiss.
But then again, why should I care? Love is stupid, pointless, especially at this age. Even so, I still do wonder, when fate will give me my first.
I guess I'll just have to wait.
