Hayden Windsor ran inside the medium height cottage she lived in, her mind was racing and her body was shaking with fear, her chestnut brown hair that was usually in a ponytail was flowing down her back, her coffee eyes were wide with fright and her casual dress was covered in blood, not hers, but rather her lunch date, a fellow cadet in the army, the two had been sent home and seeing as they lived near each other they had decided to meet up for lunch, which ended with a crazy woman falling from a building and landing on her date, mauling him, making his blood splatter everywhere, including on her dress.
She of course did the logical think she could think at the moment, when being disarmed, she grabbed the nearest thing to her and used it as a weapon, which had been a pike from a railing, and hit the crazed woman with it until she fell limp on the ground, Hayden then ran, ran like hell was on her ass, cursing herself for having agreed to have lunch so far away from home. At least 1 hour by car and 3 if she kept running and that's what she ended up doing, she ran home, 4 hours, praising herself for remembering that she was an utter disaster in heels and that by taking trainers she would not make a fool of herself.
She stumbled through the front door and slammed it shut behind her and leaning against it as she caught her breath, outside looked like a war zone, people had suddenly turned cannibals and began attacking any and everyone in sight, then slowly she staggered into her living room, heading for her father's old secret stash of weapons when she came across her childhood best friend and Scout's companion, Annabelle Harris holding a riffle, looking exhausted and dirty with a horrible bite mark on her upper arm, "Hey! I haven't seen you in ages." Annabelle teased with a forced smile, "Glad to see you too. But would you like to explain why there's a corpse in my living room." Hayden inquired looking at the ground in front of her best friend.
"The asshole took a chunk out of me before I blow his goddamned brains out." Annabelle cursed causing Hayden to stare at her wide eyed, "What's going on?" the chestnut haired young adult inquired, her need for answers being greater than anything else, Annabelle shrugged and clutched her arm, wincing as she pressed her hand against the bleeding wound, "Who the hell knows? Everything went ballistic, I was with the girls out selling cookies when suddenly everyone stared going crazy..." the blonde bombshell that was wearing khaki bottoms and vest and a white shirt started, her vision slowly becoming hazy, "...I grabbed the girls and rushed to headquarters, everything was chaos there too, the boys were there, you know catching up but after seeing how everything was I grabbed as many as I could and I rushed here..." Annabelle said hazily once more, her body sliding back down to the couch.
"Anna?!" Hayden whispered urgently, lurching forward for the blonde who's eyelids were dropping, "I'm fine... tired and in pain... but fine." The Senior Scout said, a few groans leaving her lips, "You're not fine. You need..." Hayden started but Annabelle forced herself to open her eyes, grip her wrist and said in a harsh and breathy tone "Shut up! Just shut the fuck up!"
Silence.
Hayden kept quiet allowing the only thing to be heard was their breaths, "The kids... are upstairs... look after them..." Annabelle breathed out, the little colour she had on her skin vanishing quicker, "Hey you're gonna be fine! We're gonna go to Santa Monica and drink Margaritas while the kids play." Hayden was quick to say, shutting down any not mundane thoughts her best friend was having, "Just fucking listen! I've seen... how it ends...when someone get bit... I'm not going to make it...So just shoot me... when I stop breathing... in the head..." Annabelle gasped out.
Hayden frowned but grabbed the gun and held the blonde's hand tightly in hers, "Hey, you have to tell me how your married life is going." she whispered to the blonde, trying to keep her awake but she knew it was with no avail and the second Annabelle stopped breathing, a small sob escaped the chestnut haired young adult's lips, making her lean forward towards her best friend's chest, laying her head there staring at her hand where a gold band and a gorgeous diamond ring set on her left ring finger.
And after a few moments.
A gasp was heard.
