lilia. saturday 5th january, 6:02pm.

i sat on the steps facing my front door, biting at the loose skin by my fingernail, when my phone buzzed in my back pocket.

i stood up and and walked over to the door. i took a deep breath in, then let it out, then opened the door.

maddie looked stunning.

"hi," i said, letting out a breath i didn't know i was holding in, "you look gorgeous."

i saw her cheeks flush a pale pink, "thanks," she smiled sheepishly, "so do you."

i bit my lip subconsciously, and looked down at my feet. "should we get going?"

maddie seemed flustered, in a sort of adorable way, "yeah." she showed me to her car, which was small and white.

i sat in the passenger seat as maddie started up the car. we drove in a peaceful silence until we reached the movie theatre.

we went inside and bought our tickets and snacks. i can't remember what movie we saw, i spent the whole time thinking about maddie.

when we were in the theatre, we sat right at the back. i'm not sure why, but we did. the film started, but no matter how hard i tried to concentrate on the plot, i kept thinking about how much i wanted to hold maddie's hand and rest my head on her shoulder and kiss her soft lips.

fifteen minutes in i felt maddie look over to me. "lilia?" she whispered.

"yeah?"

"can i hold your hand?" she asked, her voice soft and quiet.

"yes, please."

i felt her fingertips graze mind gently. she played with my fingers for a few moments before lacing our hands together, the whole time my entire body was surging with tingles.

"maddie?"

"yeah?"

"i really like you," i whispered.

"really?" she asked, and i felt her squeeze my hand.

"yeah. i really, really, like you maddie. i know i met you just literally a week ago, but i really like you, like so much."

"wow," she said quietly, "i really like you too lilia."

and with that, i gently nuzzled my head into the crook of her neck, softly resting on her collarbone, and she rested her head on top of mine.

we sat like that for the rest of the movie, occasionally squeezing each other's hands. when the film finished we left the screening room, still hand in hand. our dinner wasn't booked for another half hour, so we decided to hang out in foyer of the theatre.

we were just talking and giggling, when maddie decided to wrap her arms round my waist. she pulled me closer to her body, and pressed her forehead onto mine.
