INTERVIEW WITH SLOANE DAVIDSON
Following the raved after-credit scene of Captain America: Civil War, Marvel fans—both young and old—scratched their heads at the small tease of a new character in the ranks. The teaser was as simple as it could get: a young girl conversing with whom was referenced as her mother. Though, following the name drop of "Hailey," twitter accounts, instagram accounts, and anything of the like exploded in excitement. Hailey Bishoff, the teenage girl behind the mask of the famed heroin "Black Jack," will be making her appearance in the Marvel Cinematic universe in the upcoming Spider-man solo movie, Spider-man: Homecoming.
Just weeks ago, Marvel announced that Sloane Davidson, actress behind the sassy personality of Elaine "Ellie" Jackson in Stranger Things and the youthful, wolf-hunting persona of Samantha Argent in Teen Wolf, will be casted to play the beloved Bishoff.
Luckily enough, we were able to score an interview with her about her thoughts and expectations of coming into this new role and even a bit of insight on Hailey Bishoff in the cinematic universe:
How did you feel after getting the callback from Marvel and the later confirmation of earning the role?
The callback was definitely nerve-racking; I was worried it was one of those calls along the lines of "Hey! Thanks for auditioning, but you didn't get the part!" Though, to my relief, they wanted to schedule two or three other sessions. After that, it was a bit easier to be in the room with the casting directors. I was shaking during the first audition, but the other times felt much more relaxing. After finding out that I got it, that was just the cherry on top. I was so excited I screamed in pure joy.Do you think adapting to this role and procedures of Marvel movies will be easy or difficult?
The fighting scenes is what I'm nervous about, mostly. As a movie enthusiast myself, it's clear to see the difference in fighting styles in any and all Marvel movies than in Teen Wolf or Stranger Things. Teen Wolf was reckless, crazed fighting because the characters were teenagers—all unaware of true fights. The same could be said about Stranger Things. In Marvel, however, it's so different. The fights are emotional, beautiful, fluent—all the while strong and brutal. It'll definitely take some getting used to. Though, emotional scenes are what I'm good at, it seems; that's what I'm mostly seen in, anyways. Guess I'm really good at crying or just being emotional in general, haha!Any insight on how you think her arrival will change the course of the Marvel Cinematic Universe?
I think it's a bit too early to say. If we were looking at a comic perspective, then a lot of hell is to come. Though, she's an adult in most, if not all, of the issues she's in. So, whether the events that happen with her in the comics will mirror that which happens to her in her adulthood, then the cinematic universe is going to be very exciting. But, like I said, it's much too early to say.You mention the comics frequently. So, naturally, you must of read them a lot growing up. Did you find any similarities between Hailey in the comics and now in the cinematic universe?
Haha, yes, I read the comics a lot when I was young. My dad was the one who got me so hooked on both Marvel and DC comics. Similarities, though? Yeah, there's a lot. She's still smart, witty, and sarcastic—maybe that's why she's a teenager now, huh? Plus, she's like a mini Stark; she's so smart and intertwines that with her sense of humor and bits of biting comments to shut down anyone. She's so amazing! You definitely provided us with plenty of information on Hailey Bishoff—well, as much as you could give us, what with disclosure policies and all. Thank you for your time, Miss Davidson. We're very excited to see you on the big screen!
Thanks! I'm excited to be on the big screen, too!Surely enough, theories will be spiraling due to her arrival—especially relationships, deaths, or major fights that could sprout. Just as our representative said, we're excited to see what's to offer with Davidson—whom we believe to a fitting woman for Hailey. A bit of a change of pace might follow with this sudden appearance, but excitement, suspense, and anything in between will be the only aspects to follow.
