I didn't choose to go to college! My parents thought it would be "good" for me. After I accidentally came out to them as a non binary pansexual, they have made it their job to get me out in the world. I needed the "social life" They said. I'm glad they support me, but I do miss the days where they liked their little socially awkward kid. Then BOOM, I come out, and I'm suddenly expected to be a social butterfly. I think it has something to do with being pan, since I'm attracted to all genders, I'm expected to like EVERYONE. Of course I love my parents, I'm glad they support me. When I told them on that weird Friday night, they went online right away to buy all sorts of binders and stuff. I definitely look different now... pale skin, very small and short, dark brown eyes, short reddish-brown hair with bangs that fall over my left eye. I have a bigger chest, but with my binders you wouldn't be able to tell.
"Heather are you ready to go yet?" Mom called
"Almost!" I yelled back, shoving clothes into my bag.
"Well hurry up! We have to drive you to the airport!" She yelled back.
"I know!"
That's another thing, I'm going to college in New york. I live in a small town in California. I've never been outside my town, nevertheless California ITSELF. Now all the sudden I'm going to college in a huge city, with people, and I'll have to take care of myself... no more parents to save me.
I slowly walked down the stairs carrying my bags... I smiled at my parents shyly.
"Ready?" They asked. I nodded.
I walked out the front door of my house I've lived in for the 18 years of my life... and got in the car
"Heath, honey, this isn't goodbye, you know that." Mom said squeezing my hand from the front seat.
I nodded again.
"I know your scared, that's perfectly fine"
"I don't wanna go." I said quietly.
"I know you don't. You might make friends! Think of that!" She said happily.
"I don't want to" I said smiling sadly.
She squeezed my hand one more time before we arrived at the airport.
"I'm so proud of you Heather" Dad said smiling. My mom's eyes sparkled as I walked into the doors of airport. They quickly ran up to me to hug me tightly.
"Call us every night honey" mom said.
"I will"
"And, if it doesn't go well, you can still come home... we won't be disappointed." Dad said.
"Bye baby" They said with happy tears in their eyes.
"Bye, I love you guys... a lot" I said quietly.
"We love you too." They said
