It was just another day of ruling the NightWings.
I sat back and sighed happily, the cool coconut drink refreshing me in the humid rainforest air.
I was ten now, and I'd been ruling for five years.
After Stonemover had cast his spell, everyone begrudgingly agreed to let me be queen.
Seriously, it's like someone mind-controlled the entire tribe. It seemed way too easy.
Then again, I guess seeing your entire world getting blown up in seconds would make you too shell-shocked to argue much.
Since then, the NightWings and the RainWings have been living in harmony. Glory and I made sure that we signed a peace treaty first thing.
Everything was perfect.
Anyway, there I was, calmly sipping my coconut, when I heard a rustling in the leaves.
Curious, I got up from the pile of moss I had been lying on and went out to investigate.
I slowly crept behind a convenient bush whose sole purpose seemed to be to hide eavesdropping queens like me.
I peeked out from the leaves...and I saw a sight I thought I would never see, and has permanently scarred me for life.
Bamboo was kissing some RainWing girl.
The girl had scales like gleaming jewels, painted with all of the colors of the rainbow, and...
And why the hell was I still watching this?
I quickly turned away and walked as if I had seen nothing. However, the image was going to be stuck in my mind for a very, very long time.
I mean, I knew Bamboo was six now--almost an adult--certainly old enough to be in love. But still...it just didn't fit the picture of the sweet little innocent dragonet I had rescued.
And hold on...wasn't he best friends with a girl named Rainbow at the time?
Smirking, my memory flashed back to the rainbow-colored scales of his girlfriend.
I cackled inwardly. Oh, I am so going to hold this over his head.
Because blackmailing six-year-old RainWings is an everyday duty for a NightWing queen, right?
***
I was back to sipping my coconut drink.
I really had to find a new hobby.
As I contemplated whether it was really worth it to walk all the way over to the palace library when someone cleared their throat importantly.
I looked up, slightly annoyed that my very important consideration had been interrupted. "Oh, hi, Aunt Spellcaster."
"It's Twilight, Stargaze," my aunt said stiffly.
As you can probably guess, things hadn't exactly gotten better between us in the past five years.
"Okay, Aunt Twilight, then," I said, forcing a smile on my face. "What are you doing here? You never visit me."
"Stargaze, I live in this palace."
"Well, yeah, but you never actually talk to me or anything. Usually, you just throw a disapproving glance my way and ignore me."
"...You act nothing like a real queen, did you know that?"
I waved my talons. "You're family. I don't have to act all regal in front of you. Anyway, why did you come to see me?"
"To do this." Smirking, she knocked me over the head, and I blacked out.
Yep, a perfectly normal day.
