It was the start of the new school term again. The smell of freshly made pancakes wafted into my nose. Immediately, I knew that it could only mean one thing - breakfast. I carefully put on my school uniform, which was a white top with a green pinafore.
I had already been in this school for two years and was beginning my third year at school. It has been rumoured that third years receive huge work loads and tremendous pressure to do well in exams. Hence, I was feeling a little jittery. I shook the nasty feelings away and I skipped down the stairs to the dining room feeling excited.
Right after savouring my pancakes, I grabbed my bag and headed outside. When I boarded the school bus, I was about to sit down when a familiar voice shouted, "Sonia! Come sit here!". I turned around and spotted my best friend, Janice. I headed to her direction and flopped down on the seat beside her. "I hope we will be in the same class this year," Janice said.
Our grades last year were the total opposite. Being in the same class would be totally unexpected. But still, I didn't want her to feel that I looked down on her. I nodded. If we were in different classes, would I be able to make new friends in my new class? Well even if I didn't, at least I would have Janice to rely on. Hopefully.
Before long, we reached our school. The sign on top of the school gate, which was painted in green, had the two bold words "Queenstown Academy" on top.
My school was considered a "good school". Many of the Nation's top scorers would have come from my school. As a result, many people hope that their daughters can get into my school, all for the sake of a better future. My parents were no different - they also wanted me to have the best.
Many people say that I was lucky to be able to get into this school but of course, what seems sweet on the outside may be bitter on the inside.
The work load for year 1 and 2 was acceptable but it would be heavy if compared to a neighbourhood school. Upon thinking about this, I sighed while walking to the school hall.
