Miranda
Princess of The Dark: Chapter 13: Impasse
After her tears had dried up, and she was calm she climbed back into the bed and pulled the covers over her head.
She was hurt, and confused, though her love for Riordan had never faded, had like to pretend to herself that she was over him, and could get on with her life, without him.
Seeing his handsome beloved face while not in the safe area of her dreams was like a shock of electricity straight to her heart.
She didn't want to go through the pain of losing him again, but she would never feel comfortable with the fact that the King could easy have Riordan's death ordered.
And Tyler was no different; she loved the teenager like a son for his love of life, his loyalty to his brother, even his pranks which reminded her so much like herself as a teen.
She was glad that He had brought Tyler, for if this was to be the last time she say them, she wanted a worthy goodbye, while last time she had just left in the dead of the night, Riordan reaching for the pillow where she had last laid her head.
It was decided, she would no sooner put her men in danger than she would her sister or Nicolae, and its not like they were going away.
She would cherish this time she had with them...before she turned herself into the King, saved them all, while walking away from everything she had ever loved.
Riordan's: POV
As my brother pulled me down the hall away from Amelia's room, I felt like I was losing a piece of my soul.
I wanted to be there to comfort her, she needed me, I could see it, yet she had not turned to me for, and that kills me inside.
It seems as if I am always the one proving my love, when I never feel as if its returned.
There's only so many times a man can put himself out there and be made a foul.
What had I ever done to make her doubt me, I confessed my love frequently and never passed up an opportunity to show her how much she meant to me.
Yet the first sign of trouble and she runs away.
Sometimes I feel as if the pain is just not worth it, then I remember the smile in her eyes, those beautiful baby blues, filled with the innocence, and trust as she looked upon me.
Those days when all I had was my memories and our dreams, Tyler was there keeping me sane and stopping me from running after her, Until now.
Now is the time when she will finally admit she loves me, and shall be my bride for all eternity. Why does love have to hurt so bad...?
Amelia looked at herself in the mirror shook her head sadly, the turned on the sink to wash her face, removing the best she could the evidence of her tears.
She had no more time to sit here and mope, she must go downstairs and reassure Riordan that she loved him, and would be with him...until she had to leave.
But she decided to leave that part out for if he knew, her Knight would never allow her to go, even to save them.
She laughed wryly as she thought of the excuses he would make to make her stay.
He was an ancient much older than her, and he had told her many times there were ways to get around this, but she couldn't believe him, all her life her father had been like the black plague, forever running and living in fear.
Yet when she was with Riordan she felt safe, something she felt very seldom.
She was the protector; the warrior of the family, her safety always came last. It warmed her heart to know that for him, she was always number one.
Slowly walking down the steps she took a deep breath, then squared her shoulders and walked into the kitchen.
Riordan was leaning against the counter starring at the door-way as if he had been waiting for her, which she wouldn't doubt he was.
Holding his gaze she walked right up to him, into his arms, and held his face close to hers in one of their sweetest kisses yet.
His breath caught and she realized he knew what she was saying without words.
When she went to pull back he held her closer and whispered, "I love you too Lia." Against her swollen lips.
She sighed then laid her head on his chest where she had longed to be when the nights were cold and she longed for the love and warmth of his touch.
Life was beautiful once again, here in his arms surrounded by the people she loved most and the man of her dreams(literally)... but she knew from experience the king never let her stay happy for long.
