After ordering a mocha frappuccino, I sit down with Sarah and Camryn at a vacant table. "So, how are you both?" I ask, grinning like crazy. I'm excited to finally get a decent talk with my friends. Come to think of it, I haven't really had much social interaction in a few... in a while.
"Fantastic!" Sarah pipes up immediately. "Chandler and I just got engaged!"
Camryn and I both squeal in excitement and start pelting her with questions. "How did he propose?" "When did he propose?" "When's the wedding?" "Can we be your bridesmaids?" "How many kids are you going to have?"
Sarah just held up her hands in surrender. "He just proposed last night over dinner. We haven't really talked about it yet."
Camryn and I groan in disappointment but then I turn on her. "How are you and Nathan?" I ask.
A blush crept up her cheeks and she looked down at her hands shyly. "We're good. Nathan works a lot, but he loves his job, so I don't blame him." I smiled and rubbed her back a bit.
Nathan is a chemical engineer and spends a fair portion of his time in lab. But when he's home and with Camryn, well, you'll never see a more loving and precious couple. They're perfect for each other.
"How is your work going?" I asked and she perked up a bit.
"It's good. I think I've got a single coming out soon with another artist." She smiled. "It should be on the market next week."
"Congratulations!" Sarah and I exclaimed.
Just then the barista called out my name and I stood to go get my coffee. "I'll be right back." I promised the girls.
I walked over to the counter and picked up my coffee. I turned around to go back to my table and ran into a man. "I'm s-" I started to apologize, but when I looked up and saw the man's face, I froze, the words dying in my throat.
