"What are the limitations?" Chris asked me, shutting off the car.

"A small dog that's not a puppy, has to be house trained, it can't get any bigger than 15 pounds, it can't be a big barker, and you'd prefer it to be a male dog." I repeated back to him, trying to not roll my eyes at that.

"Good girl." Chris smirked, kissing my cheek.

He opened the door for me, and I walked into the very large foyer of the local-ish shelter.

"Hello! How can I help you two today?" The young woman exclaimed, rather cheery.

"We have an appointment. Christopher and Zoey Cerulli." Chris said, making me completely overwhelmed with joy when hearing his last name attached to my name.

"Ah, yes! I believe you were going to be meeting with Robin. She'll just be a minute or two and then she will get you all settled in." She told us.

We sat down on the bench, and before we knew it awoman who appeared to be in her mid 50's came bounding out of the back room, her dyed red hair the most vibrant color in this part of the building. She excitedly introduced herself as did we, and then we were brought down a back hallway where we entered her office.

"So, we're looking for a petite little addition to the family, correct?" Robin asked us.

"Yes. We aren't exactly planning to have children until after we get married, and I would love my own little fur baby. I don't have any limitations on what kind of dog we get, but my fiance here would like a smaller male dog, who isn't a puppy, is well trained, and who won't get too much bigger than 15 pounds." I explained.

"That still gives you two plenty of options. We have at least 20 dogs that fit that description. To give you just a few examples of some breeds that are currently up for adoption we have a pug, a bichon frise, a boston terrier, and a chihuahua. Are there any breeds that you specifically want or don't want?" she asked us.

"No chihuahuas!" Chris said sternly.

"I second that, but other than that I really didn't have a specific breed I wanted. I just want a little companion who will love me back." I admitted.

"Wonderful! Would you prefer to come with me and look at all of our adoptable pets, or did you want me to just bring one at a time for you to interact with?" She wondered.

Chris instantly asked that one dog at a time be brought in, but I wasn't agreeing with him on that. I knew he didn't want me seeing other dogs that didn't fit what he wanted, but thankfully he conceded to my wishes, clearly not fully ecstatic about that decision.

We followed her out of the room, back down the long hallway once more until we reached two large dark moss green doors. Little yips and deep barks could be heard through the door, excitement clearly in many of these little guys. She opened up the door and I felt this silly smirk pop onto my face as I gazed over the sea of cuteness.
