he looked at the folded piece of paper, talking to it like it was a person.

opening the curtains, he let the light fall into his room.

windows wide open, he flicked his wrist, letting the paper airplane fly freely through the buzzing city of
toronto.

he sighed, wanting a bagel — so, he went to get one.

the crunch of the snow took her attention.

the nose of the paper airplane stuck into the snow diagonally.

she picked it up.

'theories are stupid.'

her face showed curiosity.

theories aren't stupid, she thought, but kept reading.

'why can't people just believe in fate?

we can't change it so why make theories?

it's like trying to change what happens, when we really can't, like today, at school.

i made a theory that maybe if i stayed quiet, i wouldn't be bullied.

but fate had other plans.'

she suddenly felt bad for the person who wrote this.

she stopped reading, wondering how she felt the emotion of sadness.

she couldn't feel.

but she just did.
