A/N: Hello, friends! It's been quite a while. This semester has been insanely busy for me. I haven't had much time to do anything, and that includes writing this story. I apologize for my absence. I am on Thanksgiving break right now, and I had a chance to finally finish this chapter! I'm hopefully going to get part 2 up before Sunday evening. Those of you who have read this story a few months ago and have just recently discovered it, thank you! I hope you enjoy!! :D
We just left dinner at a steakhouse near campus. Gerald had bought out the back of the restaurant so we were alone. It was so cute - there were candles, rose and the steak was amazing.
He drove us to a nearby park and he was pushing me on one of the swings as we were talking. His tone was changing, though. It did that when he was nervous.
"Rach?" He asked as he stopped pushing me, moving so he was standing in front of me.
"Yeah?" I asked, looking up at him as he grabbed my hands. "What is it, Gerald?"
He knelt down in front of me, stroking my hands with his thumbs as he bit down on his lip.
"I know you're into running social media. I follow your school's publications and television station, baby," he began. "I want you to come on tour with me. You can run mine. You'll be great at it."
I bit down on my lip, avoiding eye contact for a minute before figuring out what to say.
"I can't just drop everything and leave, Gerald." I began. "You know this. I'm on a scholarship. I can't just take a year off and come back. I'm an editor, I'm a director. Walking away...I can't do that."
"But I want you to be with me, Rach," Gerald said as he stood up.
I followed his gaze as he watched me. I stayed on the swing, holding onto the chains for a second.
"I am with you, Gerald. We got back together, remember?"
"No, baby. I want you with me all the time," he said as he backed away, running a hand through his hair. "You changed me so much. All I wanna do is be around you."
"Gerald," I said softly as I finally stood up, looking up at him. "I want to be around you, too. I miss you all the time. But I'm not dropping out of school for you. I'm building something for myself."
"You can build something for yourself with me, Rach," Gerald said as he took my hand. "You don't need a job. I can pay your loans off right now if you wanted me to."
I shook my head, scoffing as I pulled my hand away.
"I'm not living off of you my entire life. And I'm not going to school just to follow you around. I want my own career. I want to make a name for myself."
"I can provide all of that for you, baby, you know," Gerald said as he placed a hand on my shoulder.
"I want to earn it myself, I don't want it bought for me," I said sharply.
Gerald took his hand away from my shoulder, looking at me for a second before backing away.
"Fine, whatever, Rachel." He said as he fished his keys out of his pocket. "Have a great night," he murmured, walking away.
Kaitlyn was at the bar with a few of her friends. She never really went out drinking much, just once or twice a month when drinks were half off. Other than that, she wasn't much of a drinker.
I didn't follow him. I didn't chase after him. It was dark, but we were only 10 minutes from campus and I needed the time to think about what had happened. I sat back down on the swing, running a hand through my hair.
