"I can help"

Those words came out quickly. Ruby used her best steady voice. The blond guy stared at her, supprised.

"And you are ?" He asked, smirking

"My name is Ruby, Alex didn't tell you I was here ?" She said a little bit lost

"He did actually. But what do you want to help with ?" He demanded, playing dumb.

"I heard you, you're looking for a third person to watch your back while you're dealing drug, I want to be that third person" She answered in one breath

"How do I know I can trust you ? You're a perfect stranger"

"Think a second, I'm a small town girl who needs money like hell, and you could break me anytime why would I risk anything ?

"Great, you need to be home by 7:00 p.m sharp, we'll drive to the spot where everything happens. By the way, I'm Ashton" He winked and left the flat.

When Ashton left, the guy Ruby saw in the bathroom entered the livingroom, dressed, this time. He said he was about to hang out, but that he didn't want to leave Ruby alone, which was sweet. They talked all day long. His name was Cameron. Him and Ashton where Alex's brothers, they rent this flat thanks to the money they make with the drug dealing. All three of them built up their little businees. Cameron was in charge of finding the drug, then Alex and Ashton were dealing it in Brooklyn. He showed her what they were going to deal tonight. It wasn't a lot "Just enough to make 1,500 dollars" he said. When she told him she was going to be with Ashton and Alex tonight, he seemed happy. He said it was perfect that a girl did it, she looked so sweet and innocente with her long weavy black hair and pale skin, nobody could say she was covering anyone.

It was 5:30 p.m when she decided to shower. Cameron had left an hour ago. Once she was clean, she let her hair dry naturally and wore the same jeans as the day before and a random white shirt she found in her backpack.

6:30 p.m. She was sitting on the couch. Alex came in.

"Oh hey" He said, smiling "Ready for tonight ?"

"Of course I am"

At 6:59 p.m, she was still sitting on the couch, Alex was in his room, doing whatever he is doing. Sometimes, she felt like Alex was running away from her. Which was stupid, since he was the one who came towards her at the first time. Ruby felt lonely ,all of sudden. She wished Alex was sitting next to her. She liked his presence, it was both reassuring and scary at the same time. After all, Alex was really impressive, you could see it in his eyes. Those dark brown eyes could freeze you, controle you, break you. She heard the front door being opened, Ashton came in. He sat next to her and immediatly said

"So, what you have to do is, whenever you see the cops, even from far away, by foot or in a car, anything, you send a text saying "hey there", simple, right ?" He said looking at her straight in her hazel eyes

She nodded

"Here" Ashton said, handing Ruby an iPhone 5 "Be very careful, alright ?"

"Thank you, I will" said Ruby taking the phone

On that, Alex showed up and the three of them left the flat. In the lift.

45 minutes later, they arrived in an almost empty area, just a few people where there: 3 teenagers and 2 men. Alex and Ruby got out of Alex's motorcycle, and Ashton of an old car he probably stole.

"It's a little bit lost but the cops know what's going on here, so be careful, plus, more people are going to show up" Alex said once Ashton reached them

"You stay there" Ashton pointed at a corner "We'll be right behind, you have the phone and the code, Alex will text you there and then"

"Ok, now go, I'll be fine" Ruby said, clearly feeling like some stupid child whose parents were overprotective

Ashton and Alex looked at each other and nodded, Ashton started walking toward a spot behind them. Before following him, Alex stroke Ruby's arm and kissed her cheek, she blushed and he winked, leaving. Was he flirting ? No way, the kid was hot and rich, Ruby was poor, lost, and vulnerable. Anyways, the thoughts had to stop and she had to focus on her duty.

She was very concentrated. No cops were in sight, only more teenagers and more men in need of drug. An hour later her phone went off, it was a text:

"Alex Black: Everything's ok ?"

"Yes" She answered, simply. She didn't want to focus too much on the texting, she had to watch their back.

at 11:15 p.m, Alex and Ashton showed up

"What's up" Ruby said, casually

"We're done" Ashton said, looking at Alex, then at Ruby

"Then let's go" Ruby answered

"You two go, I have a date" Ashton said, smiling.

"Good luck getting the booty, dude" said Alex and both Ashton and Alex laughed

Ruby sat on the motorcycle behind Alex. The ride was longer this time, and the landscape wasn't the same. Once Alex stopped the machine, they weren't home, but in front of a big building, all wrecked. They stepped out of the motorcycle. From the outside, you could see the stairs and the inside walls, all painted with graffities. Alex took Ruby's hand, smiled a big smile and said

"Come on, I have to show you something"

They started running towards the old building, Alex leading the path, still holding Ruby's hand. At this very moment, Ruby's heart was beating fast. Was it Alex's touch ? Or was it just the sensation of living something great, yet not extraordinary, mixed with freedom. Her hair were flying around her face as they were running, giggling.
