8:39

The time read on the digital clock next to the cashier on the counter.

My hand reaches for the cup in front of me, carrying it up to my lips and expecting the taste of the warm liquid. But instead nothing comes out. I look into the cup, seeing that there is no more coffee left.

"hey, Syd." I call out to the black haired girl who now quirked her head towards me. "can I get another one of those cinnamon lattes you have?" I ask once again. That was my fourth time.

"anything for the princess." Sydney jokes, rolling her eyes playfully. If I were not in the mood I am right now, I would've laughed it off and respond with a sarcastic joke.

Sydney expected a sarcastic response from me but to no avail I say nothing. She sighs then calls out, "another cinnamon latte for the princess." and turns to me. "what has gotten you all grouchy today?"

Oh, nothing much. It's just I found out that my boyfriend was cheating on me with my best friend today. And to top it all off, I've lost all of my other friends because of that. You know, the usual.

"nothing important." I lie. Sydney just lets it slide, focusing back on her job.

While I wait for the bartender to make my coffee, my head lays down on my arms and onto the table.

The whole cafe seems to be empty now except for the people who are working here. After school, I arrived here at about 4:30 pm. The cafe was quite crowded since it was the time that everyone finishes school and this cafe has the biggest population and the best food. Yes, I stayed here until 9 o'clock and no, I will not be leaving anytime soon.

The sound of the cafe door opening then closing rings in my ears but I ignore it, thinking to myself that the person who just walked in will most definitely be someone who just finished work and was hungry.

"good evening, what can I get you?" Sydney's cheery voice says and I sit up properly, staring at the eyes of the boy Sydney was talking to. He was already looking my direction, wearing a smirk.

"do you have any coffee that will keep me awake the whole night?" the boy says, still looking at me with no emotion but directing his words to Sydney.

The boy was hot. Dead ass hot. I was afraid that if I didn't stop looking at him now, I wouldn't ever stop. I wouldn't want to stop.

So I turned back to the window, looking at nothing at all since there were no vehicles or people walking along or across the roads. "Louise, did you see the boy who just walked in?" Sydney whispers to me, sitting opposite from me. I nod.

"maybe you could try talking to him?" Sydney wiggles her eyebrows. "pfft. Me? Talking to him?" I say in an overly sarcastic tone. "no." my tone drops.  Sure, he was drop dead gorgeous but me? Oh I am drop dead ugly.

"you know you guys would be cute together." Sydney says, turning back to the boy who is leaning against his palm looking through the window. Could he be any more cuter?

"Lou, coffee." a tough voice says, making the boy turn to me and I turn towards the voice. It was the bartender. His name was Lucas.

I turn to look at Sydney who is now getting my coffee for me. "thank you." I smile at her, grabbing the hot drink from her hand and taking a sip. The hot fluid burns on my tongue and I hum, loving the taste of the drink.

Shortly after, Sydney delivers the boy's drink to him and he mutters a quick "thank you" to her.

Suddenly, a loud thud booms from the door and in comes another boy with a girl. Not just any boy and girl, they happened to be my ex boyfriend and ex best friend.
