Out of breath, I walked cautiously up the steps to Hacker Academy. Dancing with Cyber felt like a dream, and I can hardly imagine facing him again. Or Perl, for that matter. She looked flabbergasted at my sudden arrival, and evident displeasure surfaced across her features at the sight of me and Cyber together. I shake the thought away.
Whatever may happen in the future, I can use Miss Tag's message as an excuse for running away at the Python gala. Besides, the place was for the rich hackers and their rich lifestyles. It would have been better for me to never interfere and just watched from above... literally.
But then I wouldn't have had the chance to dance with Cyber. And for once in my life, or at least in a long time, I felt loved. My cheeks start warming up even with the cool breeze sweeping the campus. I pass by the garden pavilion here I had second thoughts about Cyber's cocky attitude. I smile at the recollection. It feels like only yesterday, yet so much has already happened between me and the people I've met at HackCity.
It's hard to believe that just a moment ago, I was in the arms of Cyber at a spellbinding gala. Now, I'm racing to cater to Miss Tag's beckoning. She said she wanted to meet me at the Administrative floor. I still remember the first day I arrived at Hacker Academy. I was still a rookie, and the oddities that I had met terrified me. But now, HackCity is like my second home.
But what could Miss Tag possibly need from me that couldn't wait until morning?
I open the school elevators and quickly enter. The elevator sends me up to the Admin floor where Domain works. The doors are about to open but a buzzing and quick popping noise halt the process. The elevator lights just went out. My first instinct is to cower in fear. I crouch down and hope the lights will come back on. I look up. No sign of a quick fix. The elevator doors open and I make a move to stand up before a piercing shout of frustration stops me in my tracks.
"Where is that girl?"
Immediately, I recognize the young yet firm voice. I see a glow from Domain's office. Even though the door is halfway open, from the illumination of the computer screen behind her, the petite figure with her hair in a bun is no doubt Miss Tag. She leaves Domain's office muttering, "She does everything I tell her to do except this one time when I need her the most."
My mind tells me to stand up at this instant before further awkwardness can be caused when she realizes I've been here the whole time. But my gut tells me to stay put and not make a sound. Just as I thought, the click-clack of her hells are getting louder and closer until I find her standing right in the elevator. She glances around and shakes her head.
"Have to get Domain to fix the lights... good for nothing boy."
She swipes her card and presses the button to the highest floor. I try to stay quiet, but I feel my breath comes out raggedly from the adrenaline flowing through my veins and erratically throbbing in my heart.
The elevator doors open, and Miss Tag casually strides out. This floor has absolutely nothing except for two large office plants decorated in front of a large platinum wall. Faced before me are two choices.
