I opened the envelope the next morning. It was from Dad.
Hi Sweetheart!
I know how much you've wanted to travel with me lately, so why don't we go to Ireland? And the outskirts of it too. I just thought you'd enjoy it. Don't they have all the sheep? Or is that Scotland? Well, either way, let's go! Sorry, it took too long for the letter, I know you don't like using your phone as much so I decided to give this to you here. Spoil yourself, okay? You deserve it.
~DadI smiled and held the letter to my face. It smelled like Dad's cologne which sent me back home to a large manor in the middle of New Hampshire. But I was on the other side of the country now, stuck in Building 01005. But I was okay with it.
I placed the open letter back down on the counter right next to the slip of paper. The small rectangle with the address. Maybe I should go to the rich side of town every once and a while. It was very nice down there after all...
I grumpily sighed. I'd given in. I wanted to see what was so special about his works. What gave him all that money that let him live so high up there.
So I took to the streets with the six hundred dollars Dad had given me and I breathed in the cold-ish ocean air. It was almost December, but lights were already strung up about downtown. I looked in various windows while I walked along, but then one store caught my eye.
As I looked through all of the dresses, I picked out some. I really liked this one dress, but would it be too skimpy to wear to wherever this address led? I didn't even try it on yet. I picked up a few more then headed over to the dressing rooms.
The first one was atrocious. It squeezed in my waist and didn't even fit past my ass which was embarrassing to myself. Then I tried on a beautiful white lace one that I could sleep in or... maybe wear for somebody else? But as of the moment now I didn't know who that somebody was. Dress after dress. God my hips. Why did they stand out? Ugh...
I looked to the dress that I'd wanted to wear but wasn't so sure about. I turned and looked at myself in the mirror. The black dress went all the way down to the floor and honestly... hugged my body pretty well. It was a little backless and the front went down some ways. I picked out a pair of heels to make my legs seem longer. Perfect.
I looked at my made-up face in the mirror. Why was I getting so dolled up for this? It did feel good though. I took a small silver purse with my phone, wallet, and keys inside. I went to call an Uber to pick me up. An older woman pulled to the curb. I got in the back seat.
"You looks so nice! I love what you did to your hair." she smiled.
"O-Oh! Thank you!" I shyly replied. She began driving to the address. I eventually saw the buildings getting richer and richer. The pit in my stomach grew deeper and deeper. Gosh. Now I didn't even want to go. I wanted to just open the back seat door and let myself fall out of the car. What the hell was I thinking?
Then we pulled up to a white building with columns by the front door. It was such a well-done art gallery.
"Enjoy your time, Miss!"
"Y-you too," I replied as a slowly got out. I walked up the front steps. And then, through to main entrance. All over I saw beautiful faces painted so realistically. I saw different emotions and different pairs of lips all over the walls. I was astounded.
I looked at all of them. Each and everyone. No wonder why he was so damn cocky about his work the night he came into my apartment. I noticed one room kind of isolated from everything else. It had a red glow to it. I slowly approached.
