Parents. We all have them. Whether they are our biological parents, foster parents or adoptive parents, we all have some sort of figure that represents them.
Everyone's parents are different. Sometimes, parents are split up. They can be different heights, ages, and races. But they all have one thing in common. They have you, a child. And although sometimes it may not seem like it, deep down, they LOVE you.
To thank your parents, there are three things you should do to make them feel loved. Be honest, listen and take their example (If it's a good example).
Being honest to your parents can be hard. This is something that I especially struggle with. It may seem that sometimes they are doing everything in their power to ruin your life and make it "boring". Yes, it may be boring not going to that party or that movie with your friends, but in the long run, it may be damaging to your physical, spiritual and/or mental health.
Going to see that rated R horror movie with your friends when you're 10 is not good. Don't think that your parents are being mean and rude from keeping you from doing so. At that party down the block, kids at 16 are doing drugs and drinking alcohol. They are getting caught, being sent to jail and ruining the rest of their lives.
As I said before, all parents are different. Some might allow you to go to Halloween Horror Nights at Universal when you're 11. Some might not let you until 15. Each parenting style is different and nobody should look down on another parent for doing something they wouldn't do.
Lying to your parents is not good. Not only does it make your parents less trustworthy if they find out if they don't find out, but you're also going to do it again. And again, and again, and again. I'm not saying that I don't do this. I've been head to head with both of my parents for YEARS. My first word was "No." and I have a habit of lying. What all of us need to know is that you can grow. You can get better. You can stop. It takes work, but in the end, it's worth the struggle.
Taking advice from a parental figure is important. For me, I don't take advice from my actual parents, but rather from a teacher/coach that I look up to. She gives advice ranging from keeping up my high-grade average to dealing with guys. Having these figures are important. They shape you to be the person you are today.
Parents and parental figures are important. Your youth is what shapes you for the rest of your life.
BIBLE VERSE OF THE CHAPTER: PARENTS
"Listen when your father corrects you. Don't neglect your mother's instruction. What you learn from them will crown you with grace and be a chain of honor."- Proverbs 1:8-9
