Good Luck in the Real World

"You might want to go change, the taxi is going to pick you up in an hour," yelled Kendra across the room.

"You know you dont have to yell, I can hear perfectly fine," I said.

"Now, Paige don't sass me, and go get dressed." Kenrda said.

"Okay, okay," I replied. I went over to my room and got dressed in a purple tank top, and navy shorts. Making sure that her special necklace was still around her neck. She took her suitcase, and put it in the lobby of Saint Mary's Orphanage for Girls.

Kendra came up to me and said: "There is a call for you on line 2."

"Okay, I'll be in the viewing room, thanks," I said. I strolled over and slipped into the one of the 11 phone booths at the orphanage. A bright red "2" flashed right above the booth.

I picked up the phone, on the other side of the line there was a deep, raspy voice. "Hey baby girl, since today is your eighteenth birthday you have a choice, do you want me to see you, or not?

"I would rather not, sorry dad. After what happened to mom, and your therapy sessions, I really don't want to talk to you, and ultimately see you."

"Fine then, you want it that way? I will find you, I swear, even if it's the last thing I do," yelled the voice in the other line."

I started to cry, it was my first time talking to dad since he got out of therapy. It wasn't a very good 'welcome back' type of message.

Kendra walked in, she probably heard me sniffle, "What happened?" she asked, clearly with concern on her face.

" I. I, I don't even know, he just called and then threatened to see me," I said, and then burst out with a new waterfall of tears.

"Oh, hon, don't cry, he can't see you unless you want him to, plus you are leaving in a half an hour, he is probably at the cabin too, he will only be able to get here in 2 hours, and more with traffic, so don't worry," she said reassuringly.

"Okay. Thanks." I replied, still with tears in my eyes.
