Alone (Kuroko X Reader)

'I am always going to be alone. Everyone just abandons me and doesn't care.'

This thought ran through [Y/N]'s mind everyday. The fear of losing everyone and detachment scared you, but to you, this was inevitable.

'I don't understand why the world sucks so much.'

Stuffing your hands in your jean pockets, you head to lunch. You forgot you were at school.

Lost in a daydream, you bump into someone.

"Hey!" [Y/N] grumbles, before taking a step back. "Oh Kuroko I'm so sorry! I didn't see you!"

"It is fine [Y/N]," he rubs his head. "I should have moved out of the way."

You and Kuroko were classmates in many classes. Often, he would help you with questions and offer tutoring even. But you always politely declined because deep down...you liked him.

"No no! It's okay! It's my fault!" you laugh nervously. "Where are you headed to?"

"Basketball practice," he blinks. "We need to practice even harder for the game."

"Oh I see. Well good luck!" you give him a thumbs up.

"Thank you," he waves, walking away.

You could've sworn you saw him blushing.

Shaking this off, you head to the library before class starts.

Grabbing a random magazine, you flip through pages of recipes and fashion. Yawn.

Sighing, [Y/N] leans back in the chair and stares up at the ceiling.

'Why am I like this? Why? I should just leave this world. No one cares about me. I just drive everyone away and no one likes me.'

Warm tears stream down your face and you wipe them away. You hated how emotional you could get.

'I hope no one saw me.'

But someone did.

"[Y/N] are you okay?"

"Huh?!--Oh! K-kuroko!" you look away, covering your eyes. "Why are you here?!"

"Well I left my bag in here from earlier," pointing to his bag near your feet, you sigh.

"Oh...I see," you curse yourself for being in this awkward position.

But you found yourself in an even more awkward position as he hugged you tightly.

"Kuroko!" you squeak.

"[Y/N] don't cry. It pains me to see you like this," he caresses your hair. "Why are you upset?"

Fearing being left alone again, you break away.

"I'm sorry...I can't tell you."

"Why not?" his eyes cast downward sadly.

"Because if I do, you're going to leave me," [Y/N] cries, grabbing your backpack and running out.

Left in silence, Kuroko's heart broke. He hated seeing you so upset and assuming he wouldn't care seeing you in distress. He wanted to keep trying though, despite your running away and denial.

Picking up his backpack, he headed to basketball practice, slumping his shoulders along the way.

'Maybe I should leave [Y/N] alone for now.'

Sprinting for class, your eyes darted everywhere. Fearing looks and wonders about your current state.

'They don't understand.'

Finally arriving to class, you slump down in your seat, desperate for a distraction.

You just practically scared away your crush.

'What an idiot I am.'

Laying your head on the desk, you decide to just avoid him as much as possible. You didn't want to hurt him.

After class, [Y/N] heads toward the garden instead of going to lunch. Inhaling the scent of flowers and the air calmed you down.

"Maybe I'm just crazy. No one would care if I left," you sigh.

"I would care."

Letting out a small yelp, you turn and see a blue boy in front of you. His wide blue eyes make your heartbeat quicken.

"Oh Kuroko. I uh...I didn't hear you coming."

"I was here the whole time [Y/N]. Always here for you."

Hanging your head low, you could feel your heart ache at these words.

"People always say that and they leave. That's just how people are."

"But I won't," he frowns. "I want you to believe me [Y/N]. Please do."

"...I can't."

The tears start to well up and your vision is blurry. He didn't understand how emotional you could be.

Covering your eyes, you turn your back to him.

"I never wanted to be alone. People just disappointed me. I have friends...I do. But what good is friendship when it's always one-sided and you do the most. It's not fun."

Kuroko's eyes fall upon a flower and he walks toward it.

"It hurts knowing people only use you when they need you," you continue. "I should have known that's all people are good for."

Tapping on your shoulder, Kuroko hands you the flower.

"What's this?" you ask. "I don't understand."

"A girl with a beautiful heart like you doesn't deserve to be alone," he gives you a small smile. "Especially on Valentine's Day."

"Valentine's Day--Oh," you realize that you forgot what today is. "Kuroko you don't have to give me this."

"They say giving a rose to the one you like is what one should do. Please accept my feelings [Y/N]."

"Kuroko...I don't see why you like me," you wipe away tears. "Even when I push you away? When I avoid you? And act like a jerk?"

"[Y/N] you can never push me away and you are not a jerk. I will endure everything just for you. I know you are a great person inside and out. It would really make me at ease...of you would smile."

Sniffling you give him a weak smile, but he shakes his head.

"Not good enough. Here's how you should do it."

Giving you a gummy smile, you can't help but giggle and smile.

"Kuroko! You're so cute!--oop!" you cover your mouth and stare wide-eyed.

"Why thank you [Y/N]. And I always knew you liked me," he blushes.

"Oh. So we both like each other," you smile. "I'm really glad."

"I am too," Kuroko gently grabs your hand. "I want to always stay by your side [Y/N]. And cherish you dearly. I know it will take a while to take my word for it, but I will take my chances."

"I believe you," you wrap your fingers around his, giving a smile. "Thank you for always being there."

"I was never planning to leave," he leads you to the garden, where you two spent the rest of lunch together.

A/N: So this story I wrote is based on a lot of feelings I experience almost every day so no it isn't made up all the way. A lot of my angst stories are actual feelings and emotions put into them. Authenticity is key 👏👏👏. But I was listening to Liability by Lorde (She is a genius and her music is so...godlike) and I can relate to the whole song almost. It's a beautiful song.
