Olympus

Demeter, the goddess of Harvest was creating new plants for the humans to discover. They have been complaining about eating the same food.

"Oh how they will never be contented."  She thought as her hands were now hurting from all the labor.

A knock. No answer.

Another knock. Still no answer.

"Demeter. You must rest. You have been working yourself to.." Zeus the king of all Olympus paused as he saw her hands still cultivating plants.

She looked at him wide eyed as he carefully massaged the numbing ache her hands have suffered. His skillful hands made her heart beat fast and her body well aware of how he was so skilled in matters of... never the mind. Right it would make you loose your mind.

It was impossible to not be in awe when you look at him. He had long golden curls that complemented his tanned skin. Bright blue eyes, straight nose, full mouth, strong jaw. His body was glorious. You cannot find fault in his looks. He was so good looking that many goddesses and women would overlook his womanizing ways.

His hand brushed hers. She opened her eyes to find him staring at her. "Olympus needs a queen. One who works hard and is beautiful too. Would you be my queen?"

"You're joking surely." Demeter said surprised.

"I assure you I am not. "  he coolly replied.

She the goddess of Harvest become the queen of the gods. It was tempting. And oh the pressures that came with it but she would have Zeus. He would be hers. Her mind and heart battled.

After a long pause she said. " Hera will be more suitable. Not only is she beautiful but she is perfect for the role of your wife... In every way possible."

She could no longer meet his eyes fearing she could cry. Gods and goddesses hated showing weakness.  How close was she to losing her will.

He held her chin and waited until she could meet his eyes again.

"Come to bed with me and I'll show you how beautiful you are."

Then he kissed her. Her mind was drugged by his kisses and she submitted to him. Not even realizing how Zeus was gloating inside for he had bedded another goddess.

Demeter did not hear from Zeus the next day or the day after. That night they couldn't keep their hands of each other she thought he was planning a proposal. Or a wedding! She felt her heart swell with happiness. And she never expected her happiness to multiply a thousand fold when she found out she was carrying his child. They would marry she would give him children and she would have him.

It was that afternoon that the gods were called to an assembly.

Dressed in her most provocative robe that displayed her curves. Even taking time to style her hair she went to the assembly.

She saw Zeus he looked so handsome in his robes. It was draped in his body to show his powerful arms. As Demeter was walking towards him she stopped cold as Hera slipped her hand on his arm.

What caught her attention was the massive pink diamond resting on her ring finger.

She left the hall for  fresh air and was about to collapse when strong arms held her.

"Demeter, get a hold of yourself." Hades voice rang in her ears. She tried to bolt upright but she just slouched. It felt like the universe has caved in on her.

"Hades? can you tell them I am unwell and  I wish to excuse myself from the assembly." she said weakly.

"I am under the impression that this assembly is important, Demeter. or they would have never called for me. Is there anything that would make you feel better?" Hades made her sit while he stood in the shade near her.

Demeter felt a little relieved that Hades did not question her or else she would have spilled her guts. Despite other gods saying Hades is cold and wicked he was the most sincere and was in fact a gentleman. He didn't even take the opportunity to ask her why she acting this way and would later hold her to her weakness or gossip with the other gods. Because Hades does not meddle in affairs of others.

And despite all that she still felt like throwing up. And she did. To her horror she found herself wailing and telling him everything.

Among all gods Hades was the most patient one but his control was reaching its limits. because he detests losing control of the situation. And a woman wailing and telling him her problems like she does not even know how he just got out of a heavy judging, tell him about their womanizing brother.

If Demeter wasn't his sister he would dismiss her. If Zeus wasn't his brother he would send him to Tartarus. Olympus he thought distastefully was a chaos.  Which is why he prefers the underworld for everyone knew the rules.

To Hades relief Hestia came out and calmed Demeter.  Hestia who already knew what the situation was told them they would discuss it later for the assembly was about to start.

THE ASSEMBLY

Zeus took his seat at the foot of the assembly table which was carved by precious stones and metals from the underworld. For only the underworld can supply such extravagance.

"Dear gods, You may now congratulate us for Hera has agreed to be our queen. We will be married by the week and will welcome our first child."

Everyone applauded.

Demeter learned that Zeus turned himself into a cockatoo and seduced Hera. She brought him news that she is with child so they will be wed. She felt disgusted with herself to think it was only a night apart.

Hades offered his congratulations and excused himself for he had to go back to the underworld.

"Brother! Surely it can wait we are discussing a wedding!" Poseidon said.

"I'm sorry. I have work to do." He tipped his head and without another word he left.

"Show off!" Poseidon yelled.

Everyone decided it was best to leave him, for Poseidon's temper is terrible.

Demeter was sitting by herself when Zeus approached her.  Inside she was a raging mess, on the outside she tried her best to stay calm.

"Stop sulking, Demeter. Everyone has been talking about you. You used to be the life of such celebrations? Aren't you happy I took your advice and will marry Hera? Do not forget you were the one who said she would be more fitting." Zeus said with no hint of sympathy.

"I was never going to be queen. You just used me. " She accused.

"Demeter. It was never my intention."

"It was your every intention. You will never change Zeus. I don't want anything to do with you." She was grateful he did not say anything else. With every ounce of pride she had left she regally held her chin up high and left him there.

When she turned her back he was already fooling around with a nymph in that very spot. Not even bothering he will get caught.   Zeus was very much like the mortals, he will never be satisfied.

Everyone was a buzz about Hera giving birth to Hephaestus, but Zeus threw him out because the baby's looks did not please him.

Demeter hid fearing Hera would take her child.

She made her decision. She will raise her child alone and away from Olympus.

Then she gave birth there was Persephone... Her Kore.
