I stared at Frederick with worry. I barely knew him for less than a week, and yet my manners failed me once again.
"Sorry." I meekly whispered, trying to show I really did mean to apologize. "I was distracted and had to find my own-" I cut myself off, not wanting to snitch on poor Lavender.
"Clothes to dress on, since I had blood on my other." I said without trying to make it sound like a lie and an excuse.Frederick, unconvinced and annoyed, stares at me before clearing his throat.
"Astrid, let this be the last time you're late. Timing makes perfection." He replied, "Imagine if you were late to Valeri's party!" I looked at the floor ashamed.
I couldn't look at his disappointed face, nor the glares coming from all around me.
It didn't take a syler to figure out that the workers and people around me were watching. Even though I haven't seen their whole body, I have seen their faces poking from their rooms.
I always ignored the stares, but it didn't mean I never knew about it.
What I didn't know was... why the glaring? What did I do other than just be late?
So many questions, not enough answers.
"Sorry," I apologize again, "it won't happen again." Then with that, I sat across from him and looked at the potatoes and meat beside it. Just from the look, I noticed that the potatoes were no longer heated and new.
How late was I?
Even still, I asked no questions and forced myself to eat it. Although it wasn't as bad just being cold, but there was something else in it. Something that I knew for sure that normal potatoes and steak have.
Whatever it was, I just hoped it wasn't poisonous.
After a good fifteen minutes, I heard Frederick clear his throat and then look at me.
"So, about training," He said suddenly, "you're going to start tomorrow. Your trainer will be Lorelei Knight, and Jax. Both trusted friends and will be great teachers for you. Lorelai will be your physical trainer and Jax will refresh your memory about our history and everything about Valeri, along with her family."I mentally groaned. Now I have two more people to have to talk to who will, no doubt, ask too many questions and expect me to start conversations.
But, once again, I kept quiet and only nod.
"Do you need me to remind you, people your age talk more than ever. They won't ever shut their traps for once." He added, "so you need to talk more. Even if your voice shakes or you have nothing to say."
I grit my teeth. For once, I now wanted to say something. Something that wouldn't be good for kids to hear, that's all I'll say.
"Okay." I snapped, "You can't blame me for not being used to talking." I then kept my mouth closed and kept my gaze towards the wall beside him.
Frederick's eye twitches, then he closes his eyes. Gripping the chair tightly, I felt a presence behind me.
I craned my neck and looked behind me. It was Arden, who didn't pay any attention to me but to Frederick."Astrid leave." Arden says darkly, but I don't move. Then, I got blinded by something shining on him. Ignoring it, i looked back at Arden with a challenging look.
