The drive from Colorado to Los Angles was a brutal one, especially being crammed in a truck with my dad and two brothers. The three of them took turns driving, letting me rest and prepare for the next four years of my life away from home. It was exciting and scary at the same time. None of my brothers had gone to college, Scott could have on a football scholarship but he decided to stay and help dad around the house and get a job at the factory. I knew It broke my dads heart when my brother turned down the opportunity ; so when my time came two years later I had accepted it; but it was in California and I would rarely see my family.
"You gotta do it kiddo, you got to get out of this dammed town or else you will never leave" I knew he didn't want me to end up like my mom, who married our dad but just when I was five years old she decided she couldn't stay in that town anymore.
"It is sucking the life out of me Derek!" I remember her yelling before the swinging door slammed and I screamed for her to come back, I even ran down the muddy drive way and chased after her car. She didn't even look back, and my dad didn't stop her. But we all knew there was no stopping Rachel Everwood.
I was stubborn like my mom and had a sharp tongue like hers; maybe that's why my last boyfriend didn't want me. And maybe that's why he cheated with my best friend. But that's a whole different story, for another time.
But ever since my mom left, so did her income. And it was hard for a while until my eldest brother, John, got a job and started helping. But it was hard after my mom left; my dad could barely look at me because I looked too much like her. I inherited her ocean blue eyes and dark brown hair while my brothers looked nothing like our mother and everything like our dad. Our town was so small in a matter of days everyone had know our mother had left. And as I got older the more people told me I was the spitting image of her; and I hated them for bringing her up.
"We are here kiddo" My dad said, breaking me out of my thoughts. I glanced out the window and saw the sunny city of Los Angeles in front of me. So many people were walking and tanned and looked like they were someone, or at least pretended to be someone. My dad's old beat up pick up truck stuck out like a sore thumb next to these Benz, Range Rovers and whatever else they could import.
I pulled out my phone and directed my dad where to park so we could unload.
"Says it's a two hour parking..." I said as I jumped out of the truck and swung my duffle bag over my shoulder. Everyone grabbed something, my dad insisted I got some new things for my first year in college, my brother even got me a mini fridge and a new laptop "Cause you are going need it, the libraries won't always be open nerd" He said when he handed it to me. I got my dorm room off the paper work that was sent to our home.
"J69.." I read out loud and Daniel snickered before John smacked him in the head
"Whats so funny Daniel?" My dad asked and I just shook my head, continuing to look for my dorm. Once I found it I reached for the door handle just as the door opened. Standing in the door way was a tall handsome guy, with light blue eyes and brown hair. He took a good half a head taller than me.
"Am I in the right place?" I asked and he shrugged
"Are you Amelia Everwood?" He asked and I nodded but before I could answer a blonde girl appeared and pushed him out of the way
"Please ignore him, I do. I'm Alyssa Hart, you must be Amelia Everwood?" She asked and I nodded
"Awesome, I am your dormmate. Come in!" She shoved the guy even more out of the way and me and my family stepped in.
"I waited to see which side you wanted so I just had River put my things in the middle til you got here" I nodded thanking her for her kindness. I set my duffle bag down and took in the room, it was bigger than the ones hey showed you on the campus tour for sure.
"I really don't care, I'll take the left side" I nodded towards my brothers to set my things down on the left side.
"River, can you help and move my stuff the right side?" Alyssa asked and he glared at her
"I told your brother I would help you move your stuff in, your stuff is moved in. My debt is paid" He bowed and walked out, without a goodbye. But boy does he know how to make an exit.
"Well, he is nice" Scott said and started to help Alyssa move her stuff to her side
"Oh you don't have to do that, really" Scott waved her off and continued to place her things on her side within minutes.
By the time I got things hooked up and set up my dad and brothers were ready to leave.
"We should get going, you got everything you need kiddo?" He asked before he pulled me into a hug. I didn't need anything, he made sure I had everything I needed and more
"Nope, you guys have a safe drive" And then they were gone in a flash. Alyssa was hanging some things as they walked out; once they were gone she turned to me.
"Your brothers are hot, so is your dad" She gushed before sitting on her bed across from mine. I laughed and laid back.
"They are OK"
"They are hot"
"Whose hot?" Someone new appeared in the door way startling me. I sat up and saw another tall figure in our door way. He was tall with dark hair and brown eyes that didn't leave mine.
"Hey Ryan, what are you doing here?" Alyssa asked as he sat down and the guy from before stepped in after him, River I think his name was.
"So whose hot?" He asked and Alyssa pushed his shoulder
"Amelia's brothers"
"Oh, gotcha. And I am assuming you are Amelia?" Those brown eyes met my blue ones and I nodded
"But I prefer Mia"
"Mia...cute. Well I am Ryan and I am Lyssa's great looking brother. That by the door brooding is River, my best friend." He gave a wave, seeming nicer than before.
"Yeah we met about an hour ago, charmer" My eyes flicked to the door where River stood, I finally got a good look at him. He was tall, same as Ryan but had lighter hair. He wore a plain black t-shit with a deep green plaid shirt over.
"We came to see that everything was all moved in for you sis, that's all. And to let you know of the party at the frat house tonight."
"Awesome, we will be there" Alyssa said and Ryan got up
"Hope to see you there" He said directly to me and I rolled my eyes
"Sorry my brother is a horn dog, please ignore him"
I will defiantly try, but both of those boys are going to be trouble
