So we got new music the other day and the sheet music is a bit old and faded. All the text directions are under the staff too, instead of above it like normal.
Anyway, during the first read through my stand partner and I (we're first desk) didn't see the pizzicato marking and we keep playing arco, quite loudly. The entire rest of the orchestra is playing quiet pizzicato.
They let us go on like this for 2 lines, laughing at us and giving us funny looks the whole time, and waiting to see if we figure it out.
We don't. The conductor stops everyone and says "what, did you guys feel like having a solo there?"
