December twenty-third.

"It's the eve of Christmas Eve, please help me convince Ajax to cut down a tree so that we can decorate it." I clasp my hand around Cipher's forearm as I give her my best puppy dog eyes.

We're currently taking a walk around the territory upon my request. I told her it was just a casual affair and that I needed some fresh air, but in all honesty I was truly searching for the perfect tree.

"How do you even know about his holiday?" Cipher asks refusing to meet my eyes.

Her question causes me to think back to many years ago when the tale was first told to me by an older gentleman who had been passing through our territory at the time. My father was very secretive about this man and told me I should always treat him with the upmost respect. I can't really remember why though.

"Someone told me a story about it a long time ago." I release her arm and drift closer towards the tree line, catching a glimpse of a beautiful deep green tree.

"Well then, tell me this story."

"It is said that many centuries ago when mere mortals used to roam this earth there was a legend of a wealthy man by the name of Nicholas who would give away his riches to help those in need. The story goes that because of his good deeds he became a saint and had a place of worship built in his name."

Cipher eyes me wearily as I sneak deeper into the forest to analyze this tree, but I ignore her caution and proceed to tell the story.

"Overtime some people began to believe it wasn't right to worship a man the way they had been doing with Saint Nicholas and so the legend changed. They introduced the idea of Christkind, someone who would secretly come on Christmas Eve to bring presents to all good children. Christkind was modified to Kriss Kringle later on and became a popular nickname for Santa Claus."

The tree was spectacular. It is by far the fullest and greenest tree I've seen today. I circle it in awe, it was also the perfect height for the living space back home.

"Santa Clause?" My eyes dart over to Cipher who had crossed her arms and raised her brow in doubt and suspicion. She didn't believe in the legend which is fine, because neither did I. I just enjoy the story and the idea of giving instead of receiving.

"Yes, a large man in a red suit who had a workshop in the north pole. Every night on Christmas Eve he would deliver toys to millions of good children all over the world."

"Well that's just impossible." She scoffs.

This time I'm the one who raises my eyebrow. "Seriously? We can morph into a whole other being, into a huge animal and you think one man delivering toys out of the good of his heart in one night is impossible?"
