In this book you are 14. You go with a friend to some concert and fan meeting for a band you've never even heard of until you meet eyes with somebody....
Today I finally turned into an adult. I'm 18. I feel like I should be excited, or going out doing something that I'm now legal to do. But instead I just stayed in my room all day. It's been like this every birthday... it just doesn't feel right without my dad. Yeah my adopted parents are great and everything, but one can't simply replace a person you loved and grew up to know and have a close relationship with. Even if he was always drafted to a new base for three months he always made sure I was never lonely or sad. When he wasn't fighting or training he would always Skype me and Sidny. He never failed to make me smile. When he was home he cooked the best Stromboli and would listen to my useless rants without complaint.
I guess now that he's gone I can see how I took advantage of that.
Ever since I moved to South Korea everything seems to have gone down hill. I've probably seen a BTS poster every time I leave the house, six months into living here Sindy cut ties with me saying, 'I was too far to talk to,' and I'm still struggling with the language here. I can keep a conversation going but it's always formal and the kids at school don't like that I'm formal with them instead of casual.
I mean does that have to make a difference?
The only upside that has occurred the whole time I've been here for the past four years is the music. My favorite artist has to be ZICO. His songs just seem to help me stay in a good mood and motivate myself to push through the days. Also social media is something that helped me feel better. Who knew that adding a lot of hashtags would gain followers? The only sad apart about my account is that Sindy still likes all my photos but leaves all my messages on read.
I don't know why I still try after 4 years.
But today's my birthday. I'm 18. Legally an adult. Maybe this is the year that I can move on from the past. My dad would want that for me.
