By the time of our arrival, the full moon stood at attention. Basking the yard and everything it can reach with its light. Rows of cars packed the field opposite of the house, few sides available. A limo even parked in front of the doors. All in all, this place is filled to the brim with people. Which isn't surprising, the pack consist of approximately four thousand people— which is relatively small compared to most packs, but only a couple of hundred will be in attendance tonight.
Crescent shaped lights illuminated the pathway leading to the backyard. With fall ribbons flowing down each tied in a beautifully done bow. This place never cease to amaze me, the backyard decorated beyond belief. A variety of fall colors and styles blending together to make an amazing view. " Gracie!" I held back a sour face at the annoying nickname. Only one dickhead called me that. "Chase, what have we talked about. That nickname ain't it chief," My words became muffled as she wrapped me inside her arms.
"I missed you too baby-cakes," She whispered quietly. Her grip around me tightening as if at any given moment I'd disappear. There aren't many things I wish for in life, but if I had been given the option to choose my lifelong partner, It would be Chase, but we're both destined for someone else and we aren't meant to be anything, besides the world we live in today doesn't work that way.
"You've reached the thirty second mark Windwood," Ernesti's voice broke our hug instantly, distastefulness shadowing her features. Its safe to say Ernie hates everyone I'm close to. "Great to see you too Ernesti," The strain in those words made me giggle. Cordial, but never friendly.
"Come along baby-cakes! The food is amazing and everyone is waiting for you. Luna Amy really out did herself this year," She linked our hands together, maneuvering and guiding us through the crowd. With her tall stature, she easily towers over half the people here; giving her the best sight possible tonight.
Upon entering the warmth of the mansion, smiles and laughter nearly everywhere my eyes roamed. "Have you seen my parents?" She shook her head still tugging me towards the kitchen.
"Hadley!" A yelp escaped my lips as my Uncle Frank hugged me impossibly tight. I don't think I've ever felt my stomach touch my ribs before, and damn is it an uncomfortable sensation. "Good to see you too Unc," I spared a glance to our surrounding, a variety of smells coating the air, teasing my stomach for something sweet. "Your Aunt Malinda is going to be jumping out her skin once she sees how grown you've gotten," I smiled and nodded as he continued to ramble about how much I've matured, those damn etiquette classes I was forced to take finally have become useful. Thank God!
"Is that HG? Ayeee! Where you been holmes? How's it been actually?" I squinted slightly, my eyes adjusting as I accidentally look right into the lights above the idiot whose labeled me as HG. I don't understand why people can't fucking say my name, sure it's a bit long, but it's my name— my staple if you will, and it agitates my soul when they come up with these ridiculous nicknames.
"That's not my name Kodi, but I've been amazing. How have you been? I heard through the grapevine that someone successfully finished his Alpha training. Is that true?" He pouted, arms crossed and bottom lip poked out. A comical pose for someone whose about to be making the laws of this pack all too soon. It was as if just yesterday, we were running through the house and fighting one another as childhood bestfriends do.
"You heard correctly, you didn't think Mom went all out just for the Moon Harvest did you?" I smiled, slightly embarrassed. I did think so, Luna Amy is an extra queen. I mean the woman loves decorating and will stop at no means to succeed in making it reach her vision. She once rented out all of Party City so she could have the day to pick through decorations without being bothered. If that doesn't seem over the top, then I have no idea as to what does.
