In the slight summer breeze was a gentle melody, it's soothing tones made the animals of the field perk their ears to listen. Their gaze was focused on a man and woman not too far away, sitting on a small hill with daisies all around.
The woman, just a mere twenty-two years old, gazed at her friend as he played his acoustic guitar to a beat only present in his head. The chorus of notes lulled her into deep stupor, putting her mind at ease from all things the world had to offer. Cruel as those things were, it was bound to get much worse.
The man worked his magic into the strings - keeping a keen eye on her - watching as the music worked its way through her body, taking the energy out slowly as to not alert her something was wrong. Her eyes gently started closing, a serene smile on her face - unaware that she was indeed not safe.
Her energy, a light lavender color, swirled in the air around her, following the invisible path that the guitar notes made around the companions.
Soon, every last drop of her essence was gone, leaving behind a husk. The beautiful woman had inhaled her last breath, the daisies a delicious aroma to be scented no more.
The magic man opened the picnic basket and took out a large Mason jar, uncapping the lid and uttering words in the air, too low for even the angels to hear. After the last word, The woman's life force started to be sucked into the glass in his hands, being capped after every last drop was captured.
He got up, glancing once at his companions body, sad for her soul for he knew she wouldn't find her way in the afterlife and would be stuck in limbo. As was the countless ones before her are. Such is the price he had to pay to keep her alive. She was the only thing that mattered to the guitar player.
The man left the large field and entered the woods, following the trails to the Devil Man's house, leaving the Mason jar sitting in the dirt before it. It was dark, perfect for the evil one that lived behind that oak door. Even the trees knew that their foliage should allow no rays to beam down upon him, for this was no man of light.
Another one gone, so she can stay.
