Making friends

The girl entered into the compartment smiling whereas the boy with her was doing the very opposite. "I'm lily , lily Evans" each introduced themselves until it came to Severus Snape, he didn't say hello but only looked moody when the kind girl beside him had to introduce him . They had obviously known each other for a while as you could simply tell. James potter sat there staring at the hunched over boy with an arrogant smirk on his face thinking of ways to pass the time as the train rattled on to Hogwarts. After 5 minutes of awkward silence lily and Severus started a conversation about the Hogwarts houses. At this point James overheard Severus say he wanted to be in Slytherin "who wants to be in slytherin? I think I'd leave wouldn't you?" James scoffed
Sirius again said about how his family went into Slytherin "as I said before , maybe I'll break the tradition" - "I forgot to ask- where are you heading if you've got the choice then ?" Sirius added
"Gryffindor where dwell the brave at heart" James lifted an invisible sword and swung his arms around. Severus Snape made a disparaging noise at this
"You've got a problem with that snivellus ?"
The boy now to be known as snivellus sneered in an ugly way and said "no, if you'd rather be Brawny than brainy"
"Where you hoping to go then Snape ? Seeing as your neither of the two" James said this as if he was simply talking about the weather but lily Evans quickly stood up her face red from anger and stormed out with Snape soon following behind casting a glance back at James and Sirius now holding their sides from laughing. The two boys where sure to be friends but the boys opposite them who had been forgotten about in the commotion looked guilty and Remus lupin had began to feel even worse than he looked.
Sirius and James didn't take much notice of the other boys in the compartment except for the odd outburst of laughing peter would come out with if Any of the 3 other boys had said something even a little funny. They would pause for awhile and continue they're conversation getting slightly annoyed about him but all the while still tried to include him in the conversation, he hadn't done anything wrong so they had no reason to not want him being there.
Many other people passed by the door but there was no sign of lily or Snape until Sirius decided to go and buy some more sweets after they had finally finished the first batch. He had wondered down the centre of the train and noticed that lily Evans was sitting in a compartment alone reading a book, her eyes were red and puffy and she had clearly been crying. Sirius didn't like the girl all that much so he continued on wondering what "snivellus" had done to make her so upset. As he walked on he came to the trolley and bought some Bertie botts every flavour beans.
Sirius filled his pockets with the bags of sweets and started back the way he came when he seen the boy with greasy black hair turning away from him in a hurry as if he were scared. He couldn't leave it alone and had to say something snarky as he passed by the boy who Sirius had not noticed had made some new friends sitting in a compartment comparing notes of some kind in an ugly leather bound notebook. He didn't like these people straight away from seeing them lurk at the end of the train sectioned away from everybody, one of the boys was clearly older as he was around a foot taller and already wearing robes of black silver and green , his hair was a bright blonde - almost unnatural- and he seemed to have a constant face of discontent. He looked down his nose at the other boys who seemed to worship him, clearly wanting his approval of something or another. "Probably looking to get into that vile house of snakes" Sirius thought to himself not meaning to make the face he did as he stepped back into his compartment with James Remus and Peter.
"What's wrong with you?" James asked in an obvious way
"Nothing , nothing just that Snape is lurking around like a little creep- I can already sense we're going to hate him"
Peter erupted into a fit of giggles at this, thinking Sirius was making a joke , he stopped soon after realising why he was getting a dirty look from all three boys.
It turned out that they all wanted to be in Gryffindor just as much as the other and had settled on talking about quidditch since they could never be sure about what house they'd be in once the hat has sang his song.
The train clattered all the way through wild hedges and weeds still going at a steady pace to the rhythm of conversation and buzz all over the train. It was dark by the time they had arrived at Hogwarts and now everyone had dressed in they're robes and it was a sea of pointed hats and noise crowding out onto the platform in Hogsmeade station.
All four boys jumped down from the step of the train dragging they're heady cases behind them on trolleys as James owl hooted annoyingly in his cage.

"Firs' years over 'ere" a booming voice was heard over the chatter and the four boys among many others made they're way to the large man holding a torch up high. Beside him say an equally as large dog, wagging it's tail as drool dripped onto the ground. "Don' be worryin' 'bout him it's only fang, an' yeh can call me Hagrid" the bearded man seemed friendly and he smiled underneath his mess of bushy hair.
James Sirius Remus and Peter all made they're way over tripping in the process. They soon realised that the scary looking man was not scary at all on the contrary he was one of the friendliest people you'd find.
"We'll be crossin' over in the boats tonight" he said
Everybody else had left on large carriages moving by themselves whilst the first years got into small boats and crossed the lake. The moon reflected and glittered on the surface of the black lake in a taunting way it was a new moon and many many nights until it was full. Remus, James, Sirius and Peter were in a boat together to cross the lake and it was surprisingly easy to row across. The boys smiled to themselves to think that they'd soon be getting to see the castle that they'd soon be calling home
