Chapter 5

“Where have you been Blue, I got worried.” Helen said as I approached the house.

“Sorry, Nate was showing me the chair he is making for Doc Tanner.” I was not about to tell her that we were getting all hot and heavy too. I handed her the eggs and I turned to see Nate coming from the shed and putting his shirt back on. I smiled at him and he smiled right back. I took a seat on the porch swing and watched him as he made his way to the house. He is so handsome I thought to myself.

He came up the stairs and pulled off his work boots and took a seat next to me. We just swung in silence for a few minutes and I noticed his hand was right next to mine, so I slowly moved mine towards his and laced my fingers into his. He gave my hand a squeeze and I laid my head onto his shoulder. Being near him and the rocking motion made my eyes feel heavy, I know I should not be tired, but being pregnant drains me. My eyes close and I feel him rest his head onto mine. He must have nodded off too because we both jumped when we heard a camera go off. Helen took a picture of us.

“Mom, come on now.” Nate called out to Helen.

“Don’t give me that, it was a beautiful image and I want to remember it forever.”

I just smiled. “You’re right, okay, can I see it?” he asked.

She handed him the camera and he went to the picture. “Oh my Blue, I think it may be a keeper.” He laughed.

“May I see it?” I asked him as I rubbed the sleep from my eyes. He held it so that I could see it and I was amazed. The picture was beautiful. We were holding hands and his head rested on mine, which was on his shoulder, we seemed too comfortable together.

“Blue, are you crying dear?” Helen asked me.

I wiped away the flowing tears and Nate looked at me with concerned eyes. “I’m fine, it’s just that, it’s an amazing picture Helen, thank you for taking it.”

I took Nate’s hand again and he pulled me into a hug, and I reached my lips up to meet his. A small simple kiss that said a lot.

“Hold on, what was that?” Helen exclaimed.

“Well…umm… mom, Blue and I are going on a date tonight.”

“GAH! It’s about time.” She was really not one to mess around with. “I have seen the way that you two look at each other, I saw this coming a million miles away. So, where are you taking her son?”

He seemed embarrassed. “I was thinking about going to Green’s.” He explained to me that it is a golf course that has a club house that makes amazing steaks.

“Good choice, but the girl will need something to wear. Let’s go eat breakfast then we will head to town to go shopping.” She seemed as giddy as a high schooler.

We ate breakfast and after, Helen and I headed into town to go shopping. I have not left the farm since coming here, I was on guard. It was about a 30 minute drive, and Helen found things to talk about the entire time. She was very excited that Nate and I were going on a date; she seems to think that we were made for each other. I could not help but think how funny her thinking was, the person that was made for me is a sick and sadistic asshole. I didn’t want to think about him, but it’s been four months, I know that he is looking for me, he needs an heir.

“Blue, Blue honey, have you heard anything that I’ve said?” I was brought back to reality when Helen stopped the truck in front of a cute little department store. “Are you okay?”
