One. Two. One. Two. One step after another, all the way back to Phase. Apparently Jack had some business there. And who am I to judge? The walk was filled with silence. Not the awkward kind. But the kind where you can tell everybody is thinking. I was thinking about my mother. What would she do when she saw me? What did she want with me? Why am I so special? The questions didn't stop... One after another, piling up in my brain.

We followed in a line,  Jack in front, Sam in the middle, and me, bringing up the rear. Sam and I followed Jack, all the way through Phase, listening to him talk on his phone in some language I didn't understand. I couldn't even pick out little bit of words. The gravel was crunchy beneath my Convers. Sam had a sudden interest in his feet. And Jack was still was ranting into his phone.

My throat burned and and the Hunger stirred. My internal vampire clock was telling me we only had a few more hours till dawn. My skin tingled, and the hair on the back of my neck stood on end. My fangs throbbed in my gums. I willed them away with a hiss.

We had to be at least two miles away from Phase by the time Jack snapped his phone shut, and turned with a growl. "Ms. Legetto, I think we may need to find shelter from the sun. You do know the best way for people like us, right"

"Wait, what?"I hadn't even really heard a  word he said. I was to caught up in the thought of Sam, and the way we used to be. So happy...

"You must dig. Here." Jack pointed to a spot at his feet. I hadn't got a good time to look around at my surroundings. We were walking in the middle of a meadow. Full of lush green grass and wildflowers.

"Dig? Why in the hell would I dig? Plus," I threw my hands in the air, "I don't have a damn shovel."

"Have you forgotten, Little Bird, that you are no longer human?" he mused.

"But-" I stammered.

"But nothing. It's a vampire's natural instinct to dig. And so," he pointed to his feet again, "you shall dig here."

My eyes squinted into slits, glaring at him. "Fine," I snapped. I knelt on my knees, right at his feet, and began to dig. The two boys began talking, about life as a vampire, and their kills that they made. I couldn't help but grin, considering Sam hadn't really killed anyone on his own. He hasn't even really been on a real hunt. I did my best to hide my smile.

By the time I had dug a nice size hole, my hands were caked with mud, and I couldn't believe how long it'd taken me. Only at least ten minutes to dig a hole big enough for me to fit into. I went over my work, as the boys continued to chat and use their claw like hands as shovels.

The sky was turning pink by the time the two men had finished their little chat. My skin burned, and I hissed. I needed to get underground. Now. I dove into the hole I had dug, covering myself back up. Letting the soft, cold soil caress my skin. The last thing I remember was a scream, a male's scream, before I sank into darkness.

I woke up with fangs and claws bared. Damn do I hate nightmares. I emerged from my earth cocoon, greeted by the moon and stars. I smiled, revealing me fangs, and stretched. The meadow hadn't changed at all, with no surprise. To my right, I heard muffled grumbles coming from below. I turned my head, trying to get a better view of Sam trying to escape out of his hole. I laughed.

To my left, the hole in which Jack was suppose to be in, was empty. My eyebrows dew together, confused. "Do you have any idea where Jack is?" I asked.

"Hmm?" Sam was still trying to pull himself free. I sighed, walked over to him, grabbed his arm, and yanked. Sam flew from his hole, landing on his rump with a thud.

"What the hell was that for?" he asked, getting to his feet and rubbing his ass.

"Well, you obviously couldn't get yourself out of there, so I helped. Plus," I said, turning to him, "do you have any idea where Jack is?"

"Well, my little bird, I believe I'm right behind you." I spun around, coming toe to toe with Jack, his dark eyes holding mine. A flirty smile played mouth as he eye'd my up and down. He chuckled, "Well, my Love, I can tell you aren't a morning person." The smile didn't dare leave his lips.

Oh my God... If only I could blush. But I only swallowed my flattery, returning his smile. "I have a feeling you're right." I made voice, low and sexy, eyeing him up and down. I put my hands on my hips, letting my lower lip pout. "Last time I checked, I'm a night person." I winked. Behind me, Sam snorted.

"Marie, I can tell you still haven't got any better at flirting, have you?"

"Oh shut it," I snapped, glaring at him. He only smiled.

"So, sense you're the queens mailman," Sam said, nodding at Jack, "where to now?"

"We wait."

"Wait for what?" I asked? My question was answered not seconds later. A roar came from above, making me jump. I looked up, letting my eyes shift to the large metal bird descending on us.

"Really? My Mom's got a helicopter?" I asked, breathless.

"You're mother has many things, my love. And I just happen to be one of them." Jack winked at me, grabbing the rope latter that had dropped from the giant metal machine. My long dark hair swept around my shoulders, all tangled and ratty. Another rope latter dropped in front of me, and I jumped. Sam an Jack were both almost to the top.

I scurried up the latter, not letting my huge fears of heights get in the way. Once my feet touched the metal floor of the helicopter, two pairs of new eyes were on me. A strong gust of wind blew through the cab, blowing the new comers sent in my direction. Human. They were human...

The Hunger howled in my stomach, making my flinch. I snarled, revealing my fangs and crouched. One female, and one male. I could hear their hearts beating frantically in their chests. I flicked out my tongue, tasting the air. Fear. They were totally and utterly terrified of me. I grinned. The humans cowered the farthest corner, shaking in fear. A laugh bubbled in my chest.

"Marie." I turned to see Jack looking at me with stern eyes. "They are servants of your mothers. They shall not be harmed."

"But why?" I snarled, still in my pouncing position. "Why does she keep humans when all she has to do it create more vampires to do her dirty work? Look at all this fresh blood..." I licked my lips, lettings my tongue slide over my fangs.

"There will be plenty of time to discuss this. Now come, sit."he patted a spot on the floor next to him. So I did was I was told. I crawled over, and sat.

"Now what?" Sam insisted, staring out the huge opening right out into the night sky.

"Now, little one, it's time for you to meet the Queen."
